About the role

The School of Data Science seeks applications for a TFWS Research and Insights Analyst. This position supports research and synthesis across CAAL’s initiatives, including topics such as nonprofit impact, social and human services, and public interest technology. Students in this role apply qualitative and quantitative methods to help answer real-world policy and practice questions.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conduct desk and landscape research to map current practices and innovations in policy and social impact.
  • Draft memos, briefs, or case studies summarizing findings for internal and external audiences.
  • Support data collection and analysis.
  • Synthesize practitioner interviews and literature into clear insights and recommendations.
  • Draft blog posts, social media content, or newsletters.
  • Interview practitioners and synthesize insights into stories or spotlights.
  • Support copyediting, layout, and publication of reports and resources.
  • Contribute to visual content creation (graphics, slides, or short videos).

Qualifications

  • UVA undergraduate student eligible for student employment and Federal Work Study
  • Strong research and writing skills with attention to accuracy and clarity.
  • Interest in domestic policy and nonprofit impact.
  • Demonstrated quantitative analysis experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Experience with Excel, AirTable.

Anticipated dates of assignment: September 14th, 2026 – April 30th, 2027

Pay rate: $18/hour

In addition to the job duties and responsibilities outlined herein, this position will participate in a structured internship experience through the Transformational Federal Work-Study (TFWS) Internship Program.

If selected, interns must enroll in either UNST 3910 (1 cr.) or UNST 3920 (1 cr.) for the Fall semester and will be assigned additional responsibilities to incorporate experiential learning and develop workforce readiness competencies. Interns will work directly with their supervisor to identify semester goals and will receive regular feedback related to job performance and skill development.
