Job Description

As the Executive Director, Business Partnering & Category Management, at Gilead you will lead enterprise procurement strategy across a global portfolio, shaping how critical investments in Research, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Facilities deliver value to the organization.
This role sits at the center of Gilead’s global procurement transformation—owning enterprise category strategies and driving alignment across senior stakeholders. You will influence how billions in spend are prioritized, governed, and optimized to accelerate innovation and operational performance.
What you will own
Enterprise Business Partnering & Strategy
Serve as the senior procurement partner to leaders across Research, Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing, Engineering & Facilities, and Kite
Translate business priorities into actionable, global category strategies that deliver measurable value
Shape strategic planning, investment decisions, and long-range procurement roadmaps
Own end-to-end accountability for a broad portfolio of global categories with measurable outcomes
Define and execute enterprise category strategies leveraging market intelligence and deep category expertise
Drive value beyond savings, including innovation, supplier performance, and risk mitigation
Build trusted relationships with senior leadership and influence enterprise decision-making
Communicate category strategies and performance to executives, ensuring alignment and investment support
Lead cross-functional alignment across regions and business units
Champion procurement transformation initiatives that increase early engagement and stakeholder satisfaction
Establish KPIs, dashboards, and governance frameworks to track performance and ensure compliance
Drive adoption of preferred supplier programs and enterprise standards
Lead strategic supplier relationships at the executive level
Define supplier performance expectations across cost, quality, innovation, and reliability
Partner with Supplier Risk, Inclusion, and Sustainability teams to advance responsible sourcing
Lead and develop a high-performing global team of procurement leaders
Foster a culture of inclusion, innovation, and accountability
Build organizational capability through coaching, mentoring, and talent development
What success looks like (first 6–12 months)
Established trusted advisor relationships with key enterprise stakeholders
Delivered clear, enterprise-wide category strategies with measurable impact
Improved procurement engagement and stakeholder satisfaction
Advanced transformation initiatives with visible executive alignment and results
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 16+ years of professional experience, OR
Master’s Degree (or MBA) and 14+ years of professional experience, OR
PhD and 14+ years of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of experience leading global procurement teams, including leaders of leaders
Deep expertise in category management across areas such as research services, lab supplies, construction, and facilities
Proven success driving enterprise procurement transformation and large-scale initiatives
Strong executive presence with demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders
Extensive experience in supplier strategy, contract negotiation, and performance management
Data-driven mindset with experience leveraging procurement systems and analytics to inform strategy
Ability to lead in a highly matrixed, global organization
Track record of delivering measurable value beyond cost savings, including innovation and risk management
Experience advancing supplier diversity, sustainability, and responsible sourcing initiatives
