Marshmallow
Job Description
We’re on a mission to make migration easy.
We started building Marshmallow in 2017. Since then, we’ve grown from 3 to 700+ people, gained unicorn status, raised ~£140M over three funding rounds, turned profitable, insured millions of drivers and lent millions in car loans.
But we’re only just getting started. Our goal is to become one of the largest financial services providers in the world. Over the next 10 years we’ll grow exponentially, not only by scaling our existing products, but also by building new ones.
To achieve our goals we need incredibly ambitious, commercially driven people who never settle for ‘good enough’. Marshmallowers are hungry for autonomy and ownership, and would rather improve than coast. Everyone raises standards and has an impact, with a focus on collective success over self-interest.
We’ve created an environment where curious, tenacious people win and grow together. If that sounds motivating, this could be the place for you.
The Finance Team
At Marshmallow, we’re building a financial services company designed for the future — inclusive, data-driven, and fast growing. The Finance team plays a critical role in enabling that growth by ensuring strong financial control, trusted data, and scalable processes that support decision-making across the business.
The Role
We are looking for a Finance Accountant to support day-to-day accounting activities for our Hungarian entity. In this role, your focus will be to apply your technical expertise to deliver high-quality financial operations while taking the initiative to work on clearly defined projects and make independent decisions on how to best execute your tasks.
This role sits within the Controllership team and reports to the Senior Finance Manager in Hungary. You will be part of a hard-working, supportive, and collaborative finance team, working closely with various departments across the organization to gain exposure to multiple aspects of financial accounting.
What You’ll Be Doing
Core Accounting & Month-End
Manage Financial Operations: Own supplier/customer invoice processing (NAV compliance), bank reconciliations, fixed assets, and employee expenses.
Independent Month-End: Play a key role in closing the books by preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations independently.
Technical Accuracy: Ensure the integrity of financial data in our ERP systems and support external audits.
Stakeholder Management & Commercial Insight
Business Partnering: Build relationships with internal stakeholders to provide financial support and communicate complex information clearly to non-finance teams.
Commercial Growth: Understand Marshmallow’s KPIs and value drivers, ensuring your work contributes to our annual growth goals.
Projects & Process Improvement
Automation & AI: Proactively identify opportunities to improve controls and efficiency using automation and AI tools.
Project Ownership: Independently support project workstreams, including transitioning outsourced activities in-house.
Who You Are
Experience: 3+ years in accounting or finance with a relevant Bachelor’s degree.
Local Expertise: Strong knowledge of Hungarian GAAP and local tax regulations (VAT, CIT, INNOV, Local business tax).
Technical Skills: Advanced Excel skills and ERP experience (NetSuite is a plus); ability to solve complex finance requests through data analysis.
Communication: Strong English language skills with the ability to interpret and share financial insights.
Industry: Experience in financial services or insurance is an advantage.
