About the role:

As a Senior Design Engineer/Technologist, you will serve as an experienced, individual contributor on projects and you will be responsible for providing sound technical solutions to dealers and customers worldwide for their Design-To-Order (DTO) requirements in a manner that will ensure that products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability.

Additional information:

  • Work location: Preferred location of Lafayette, IN with other locations of Houston, TX, Peoria, IL, and Griffin, GA
  • Domestic relocation assistance IS available

  • Travel: Up to 10% including international travel.
  • This position requires working onsite five days a week.

What you will do:

  • Contribute to the identification, analysis, and resolution of needs and problems for custom projects in the Oil and Gas market
  • Develop concept and design of complex components, subsystems, and/or processes for customized engine/mechanical and package/generator set solutions
  • Provide Project Specification review support for dealers and customers
  • Provide Design-To-Order (DTO) quotes to dealers and internal customers
  • Communicate technical information to dealers, customers, team members, suppliers, and other units
  • Support and advise other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, dealers, customers, and suppliers on projects and opportunities
  • Develop and maintain keen understanding of internal and external customer needs Support definition and value placed on new product features, functional and technical specifications and general product requirements.
  • Understand and keep current on customer/dealer market and needs and understand how and why decisions are made within their work group and organization.
  • Apply knowledge of products, technology, industry, etc., in support of Caterpillar, dealer and customer expectations and needs.
  • Stay abreast of industry and technology changes and relate those changes to Caterpillar, dealer and customer needs.
  • Work with internal Caterpillar departments to successfully execute order delivery to the dealer and customer.

What you will have:

  • Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

You will also have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology field with 6-8 plus years of experience, or equivalent experience of 10 plus years of progressively responsible job-related experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, communicate effectively and to influence others in the work group, dealer personnel and customers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on larger scale, more complex assignments and collaborate with other Caterpillar internal and external teams.

Top candidates will also have: 

  • Strong intellectual curiosity with a flexible mindset
  • Knowledge of Caterpillar Engine and/or Generator set products
  • Previous DTO Engineering or A&I Engineering roles
  • Excellent analytical skills, organizational skills, and communication skills
  • Ability to perform complex assignments
  • Self-starter with strong technical leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and articulate technical product performance and application knowledge.
  • Good interpersonal relationship skills and communication skills to develop a cooperative relationship with others inside the department, and especially field sales organizations, dealers, and customers.
  • Good listening and communication skills with ability to work across regions and different functional areas
  • Marketing and/or Product Group assignment
  • Experience in EOMP internal tools and applications (ECC, CSQ, BW) and other online applications such as TMI, HVC, EDDC, etc

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
