Description of Work

This is position is located at Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville, North Carolina. Alexander Correctional is a closed custody male facility with approximately 1,000 beds.

HVAC Supervisor and will be responsible for all installation, maintenance, and
repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and environmental control systems. Incumbent plan individual jobs and long-term work operations, develops a preventive maintenance program, and controls the quality of repair work. Position will report to the facility Maintenance Supervisor.

Key Duties:

• Supervisor and train HVAC Mechanics
• Diagnosis and repair various heating and cooling systems including chillers, boilers and water heaters
• Diagnosis and repair of commercial walk-in coolers and freezers.
• Familiar with electronic and pneumatic building control systems
• Experience with commercial kitchen equipment and repair
• Work with outside contractors

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range; $47,703-$83,479 Salary Grade:NC12

Management Preferences:

  • Documented knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
  • Documented supervision and training of other workers.
  • Documented knowledge of physical refrigeration theory.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and up to three years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications

Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
