Job Description

Eaton MSD Cheltenham are looking for a Contract DO-178C Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer who will be responsible for providing independent process assurance to ensure that aerospace software development complies with the rigorous DO-178C standards. This role is critical to ensure the delivery of our safety critical real time aerospace systems.

The SQA role will be responsible for the following business functions:

  • Process Compliance & Audits: Auditing software life cycle processes (planning, development, verification, configuration management) to ensure adherence to approved plans (PSAC, SDP, SVP, SCMP, SQAP).
  • Independent Assurance: Providing independent sign-off of lifecycle compliance evidence, often required for DAL A and B software.
  • Traceability Maintenance: Ensuring the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) is maintained, linking high-level requirements to low-level requirements, code, tests, and results.
  • Documentation Review: Reviewing software requirements, design, code, and test artifacts to ensure compliance with DO-178C objectives.
  • Supplier Quality Assurance: Evaluating and auditing subcontractors to ensure their processes comply with project DO-178C requirements.
  • Problem Reporting: Overseeing the management of Open Problem Reports (OPRs) and ensuring changes to the software are tracked and tested.
  • SOI Audits: Participating in and supporting Stages of Involvement (SOI) audits with regulatory authorities.

The successful applicant will possess the following required skills and experience:

  • DO-178C Expertise: In-depth knowledge of DO-178C, including the ability to interpret and apply its objectives to projects.
  • Aerospace Experience: 5–10+ years of experience in the aerospace or defense industry, specifically with safety-critical software.
  • Quality Assurance Techniques: Strong understanding of audit techniques, root cause analysis, and quality standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001).
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with embedded software development (C/C++, Ada) and software verification methods.
  • Configuration Management: Experience with software configuration tools and process compliance.
  • Certification Knowledge: Familiarity with DAL (Design Assurance Level) A-E classification.
