Senior Accountant - Job Description

Vietnam Finance

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Vietnam Finance team and is expected to independently own a focused but still senior operational accounting scope while supporting a disciplined close and a strong control environment. The role is a hands-on senior individual contributor position with steady-state ownership across fixed assets, prepayments, depreciation schedules, equipment-related accounting support, lease reporting support, travel expense processing, payment-package preparation / bank initiation support, bank / cash bookkeeping, and fixed-asset stock take coordination. The role also provides selected support / backup across AP and vendor operational accounting, VAT preparation, refund schedules, close-ready documentation, and other assigned compliance workstreams under the review and direction of the Chief Accountant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own assigned accounting processes across fixed assets, prepayments, depreciation schedules, equipment-related invoice support, lease reporting support, travel expense processing, payment-package preparation and bank initiation support, bank / cash postings, and fixed-asset stock take coordination.

  • Prepare recurring journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting files for assigned areas of responsibility, including bank / cash schedules, balance-sheet support, stock take support, timely resolution of open items, and analysis of unusual movements.

  • Coordinate annual fixed asset counts and stock take support, investigate variances, and prepare supporting analysis and close-ready documentation for review.

  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close by preparing schedules, reconciliations, documentation, selected cash-budget inputs, and assigned close deliverables for review by the Chief Accountant.

  • Support audit, tax review, and related documentation requests by preparing complete, accurate, and timely supporting evidence, including VAT preparation support, refund support schedules, and compliance-ready files.

  • Provide selected support / backup for AP and vendor operational accounting, VAT preparation, input-side refund support, cash-budget inputs, and other assigned compliance workstreams under Chief Accountant review and direction.

  • Work closely with business stakeholders, procurement, HR, consultants, banks, and US / regional counterparts; maintain process documentation and task guidance; and proactively escalate control gaps, processing issues, or higher-risk items requiring review.

Key Control Expectations

  • The role prepares and processes assigned work but does not replace formal review, approval, or payment release authority defined under the delegated authority matrix.

  • The role is expected to maintain strong documentary support, clear audit trails, timely account reconciliation, and review-ready schedules for assigned activities.

  • The role must operate with a strong segregation-of-duties mindset, including respect for independent bank reconciliation, reviewer / approver controls, and escalation of unusual or higher-risk matters to the Chief Accountant and management as appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance.

  • Typically 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in an international company, shared-services, or multinational environment.

  • Solid hands-on experience in month-end close, general ledger support, fixed assets, prepayments, cash / bank processes, payment support, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and operational accounting control routines. Exposure to AP / vendor operational accounting and VAT preparation support is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of Vietnam accounting and tax compliance requirements; practical exposure to VAT preparation, deferred tax support, payroll-related accounting, or regulatory filing support is preferred.

  • Experience with ERP and local accounting systems; familiarity with AX / D365, FAST/FBO, or similar systems is a strong advantage.

  • Good English communication skills, especially for written schedules, issue follow-up, and collaboration with non-local stakeholders.

  • Strong attention to detail, accountability, organization, and ability to work reliably in a deadline-driven close environment; professional certification or active study toward ACCA, CPA, or equivalent is a plus.

Success Profile

  • Can independently manage the assigned operational accounting scope and produce reliable, review-ready schedules, reconciliations, payment support, bank / cash postings, and close support for the Chief Accountant, while working within a control model that keeps bank reconciliation and formal approvals independent.

  • Demonstrates strong ownership, control awareness, English coordination capability, and follow-through in a lean team structure.

  • Acts as a dependable senior team member who strengthens process continuity, fully owns a core operational accounting package centered on fixed assets, travel / payment support, bank / cash postings, and related close schedules, and provides meaningful backup or surge support to the broader team without replacing formal review ownership held by the Chief Accountant.
