Key responsibilities
In this role, you will perform service and project tasks in accordance with clearly defined work instructions and in compliance with ABB’s standard processes, quality requirements, and safety guidelines. You will work closely with our customers and other ABB teams and serve as the on-site technical contact. Your solution-oriented approach and ability to prioritize tasks will play a key role in ensuring high customer satisfaction.
This position supports the Automation business unit, Energy Industries Division, in the Cottbus region. Your primary contacts will be customers from the power plant, water, open-pit mining, cement, chemical, and refining industries, as well as internal service and project teams.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Performing service tasks such as installation, commissioning, maintenance, expansions, upgrades, replacements, and backup & recovery—either on-site at the customer’s location or remotely
Technical analysis and troubleshooting, including the development of preventive recommendations to avoid future malfunctions
Planning, coordination, and implementation of technical service projects, including schedule tracking and quality control
Preparation of the necessary materials, spare parts, and tools to ensure a smooth service call
Technical consulting on suitable service solutions, taking into account ABB standards as well as safety and environmental requirements
Building and maintaining long-term customer relationships, identifying opportunities for optimization, and developing customized solutions
Participation in on-call duty following structured onboarding and training

Qualifications for the role
A bachelor’s degree in automation engineering or a related field (e.g., electrical engineering, computer science, or similar)
Ideally, initial professional experience as a service, commissioning, or planning technician in an industrial setting—career starters are also welcome
Experience with at least one ABB automation platform (Procontrol P14, Melody, AC 800M) or the ABB 800xA control system is a significant advantage
Proficient knowledge of MS Office applications
Initial experience with programming languages and virtual machines is a plus
Willingness to travel within the Cottbus, Berlin, and Leipzig region (approx. two days per week, occasionally with overnight stays)
Fluent German and good written and spoken English
Class B driver’s license
