Introduction:

Summary:

The Lead Chaplain is responsible for oversight of the Pastoral Care program for the residents of their assigned EverTrue community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assesses pastoral care needs of residents and provides spiritual guidance to individual residents, groups of residents and families through worship services, devotions, Bible study, prayer and other spiritual support. Networks with community leadership to coordinate care

2. Supervises other Pastoral Care staff at their Community, including employment decisions (in consultation with the Chaplaincy Care Committee of the Board of Directors), staffing, performance evaluation, etc.   

3. Prepares for and conducts worship services and administers communion when appropriate. May preach at other EverTrue locations as needed

4. Works with families regarding family deaths and may conduct funerals and memorial services as residents and families desire. May act as a liaison between the funeral home and the community for on-campus services

5. Provides pastoral counseling for employees as appropriate. Assists with the administration of the Christ Care fund

6. Networks with area pastors to encourage support of our ministry and to obtain referrals. Participating in District (if LCMS)/Synod (if ELCA) activities

7. Provides pastoral visits to those hospitalized or those unable to leave their home

8. Provides programs on pastoral care for the elderly to EverTrue and community groups

9. Recruits and oversees volunteers to extend spiritual care endeavors

10. Assists in fieldwork supervision as appropriate

11. Develops and adheres to an annual budget

12.Participates in the quality assurance program

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ordained and rostered clergy of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) or Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA). NOTE: In certain settings (including team settings with more than one Chaplain), non-ordained and non-Lutheran candidates may be considered. 
  • Knowledge of gerontology, family dynamics and counseling
  • Certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred
  • Comfortable in an ecumenical setting
  • Possesses an outgoing personality
  • Personal commitment to continuing education and peer review

EverTrue Pay & Benefits

Pay grade: F ($68,495/year to $109,500/year)
