Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.
 

Division:

In our development center in Turgi we develop Power Electronic Converters for traction applications. We strengthen our position in the target markets with the continuous improvement of our products and technologies. With our innovative designs, we intend to open new markets and application areas. In the Control Software Group we develop powerful and reliable control software for Power Electronic Converters used in locomotives and train sets. We are looking for a technically experienced FPGA Software Engineer (m/f) who proves to be a team player in a very innovative and intercultural environment.

Location: Turgi, Aargau, Switzerland

The work model for the role is: hybrid

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Responsible for the development and the testing of complex FPGA Firmware (VHDL) for traction and auxiliary converters in railway applications

  • Feasibility studies, simulation, implementation, testing and documentation according to traction development processes

  • Provide technical support and advisory to internal customers

  • Work in interdisciplinary project teams with engineers from power electronics and control domains

  • Contribute and draft leading-edge development processes to enhance future success of the team


Qualifications for the role

  • Degree (MSc or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Proven experience in programmable logic design (VHDL) and strong expertise in FPGA architectures

  • Knowledge of power electronic systems is considered an asset

  • Experience in testing methodologies and software development processes is an advantage

  • Fluency in both written and spoken German and English is required

  • Structured, analytical work style combined with strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration in interdisciplinary project teams
