The Graduate Assistant will support the implementation of the Math Prep Program designed to increase incoming freshmen’s access to higher-level mathematics courses. The Graduate Assistant will assist the Department Head, faculty, and staff with instructional support, tutoring, assessment administration, program coordination, student mentoring, and Living Learning Community activities during the summer.
Time Commitment: 25 hours per week during the 13-week summer.
Begin date is May 25, 2026, and end date is August 22, 2026.
Compensation: $18 per hour.
Responsibilities:
Assist Department Head and faculty with implementation of the Math Prep Program, including assessment materials, activity surveys, interactive learning projects, and supplemental instructional resources.
Assist with development of instructional materials, assessments, surveys, and workshop activities.
Monitor student progress and maintain records of participation and academic support services.
Assist with administering pre/post assessments, surveys, and compiling program evaluation data.
Assist with instructional technology and educational software, including iPads, Smartboards, and mathematics learning applications.
Provide logistical and operational support for program activities, meetings, tutoring sessions, and workshops.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and specialized tutors to support student success. Perform other related duties as assigned by Department Head in support of the Math Prep Program.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA
For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least six (6) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Familiarity with educational technology and assessment tools, interest in student success, STEM education, or learning communities, experience with College Algebra or developmental mathematics instruction.
