Introduction to role:
The Specialist – Capacity & Operations Support role in Clinical Data & Insights (CDI) focuses on planning, coordinating, and delivering cross-functional operational initiatives that strengthen performance, execution, and compliance across CDI. Working with global and functional collaborators, the role drives structured delivery of initiatives on time and within scope. It also ensures measurable value and embeds consistent governance and continuous improvement into CDI processes and methods. CDI delivers trusted, high-quality clinical data and insights that support decision making across AstraZeneca’s development portfolio, and this role enables effective capacity planning, operational execution, governance, and performance transparency in support of CDI strategic priorities. Accountabilities:
Lead and support projects and operational initiatives across CDI from initiation through closure, defining scope, timelines, deliverables, governance, and success measures.
Partner with global and functional collaborators to agree on expectations, manage dependencies, and enable effective communication and decision making.
Support the creation and maintenance of coordinated project plans, achievements, risk and issue logs, and status reporting, raising concerns where appropriate to maintain momentum.
Coordinate and run governance forums such as leadership inputs and working groups, ensuring actions, decisions, and documentation are controlled, traceable, and accessible.
Work with process owners and impacted teams to support change management, adoption, training needs, and operational readiness for new or improved methods of working.
Find opportunities for process simplification, standardisation, and operational efficiency using metrics, insights, and feedback from collaborators.
Ensure initiatives consider and align with quality and compliance requirements, including documentation standards, audit readiness, and system impacts.
Coordinate inputs from external vendors and internal partner functions to support delivery outcomes and maintain clear accountability.
Act as a delegate for the Senior Specialist for defined activities when required, maintaining continuity of delivery and governance.
Crucial Skills/Experience:
Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of proven experience in business operations, project delivery, or similar field
Experience delivering projects or operational initiative's end to end, managing scope, timelines, risks, and collaborators
Good business insight paired with translating strategy into practical execution plans
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting to varied audiences
Ability to work across global and functional boundaries, influencing without formal authority
Good execution skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines
Knowledge with project planning, dependency management, governance cadence, and benefit tracking
Understanding of change management and adoption (readiness, communications, training coordination)
Digitally proficient, comfortable working with evolving tools, systems, automation, and data driven reporting
Supporting financial tracking (budget oversight, invoice / PO monitoring, forecasting)
Demonstrates strong digital proficiency and adaptability to new tools, platforms, and methods of operations. Capable of bringing to bear technology to streamline processes, improve reporting, and produce meaningful, data-driven insights that aid informed decision-making. Comfortable engaging with evolving platforms, automation/mechanization, and analytics to improve efficiency and business outcomes.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or CRO environment
Experience facilitating workshops, retrospectives, and stakeholder alignment sessions
Good analytical and problem solving skills, including use of KPIs and metrics
Comfort operating in ambiguous or evolving environments
Knowledge of regulated ways of working (e.g., GxP awareness, inspection readiness)
Good understanding of defining and reporting operational performance metrics
