The Role
We are seeking a senior attorney to join our Financial Services Legal team supporting our thriving and innovative payments platform and financial services. You will provide legal and regulatory advice on new financial and payment technology services initiatives across Australia and APAC regions. The role involves ensuring our platform remains compliant with relevant payments regulations and card network rules, with a specific focus on supporting the launch of new products and services in our portfolio of affiliated companies, and expansion into new geographic regions. This may include ensuring appropriate licenses or approvals are in place and updated as needed; closely collaborating with business teams to enable magical and scalable experiences; creating and enhancing policies, procedures, and user-facing agreements; drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with payments partners; and coordinating and collaborating with cross-functional teams like Compliance, Entity Management, Internal Audit, Tax, and Finance. What You Will Do
Regulatory advising and engagement
Collaborating with business and functional teams to expand certain financial services/payments products in the AU/APAC region.
Carry out a plan to acquire and maintain needed or desired licenses.
Collaborating with Government Relations and other teams regarding new regulatory initiatives.
Product Counselling
Reviewing payments product structure, flows and marketing to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
Draft disclosures, terms of service and other user-facing language for payments product launches and updates.
Identifying legal ramifications related to growing eBay’s operating model concerning payments products.
Ongoing support
Partnering with business and functional groups to understand, structure, draft, negotiate and close commercial agreements with external partners.
Collaborating with commercial and operational partners to carry out a regulatory and licensing strategy concerning certain payments products.
Collaborating with the payments business unit, product, tech, and functional groups. Providing real-time legal advice to understand needs and develop creative solutions for business goals.
Supporting the resolution of customer claims.
What You Bring
A law degree and authorised to practice law in Australia.
7-10 years of legal experience with experience at a global company of scale in FinTech, the payments organisation of a large marketplace/platform company and/or achieving similar strategic outcomes for a payments organisation at scale.
AFSL experience is strongly preferred.
Experience working with AUSTRAC, ASIC, APRA and/or RBA.
Experience advising on financial services/payments regulation and card network rules.
Experience providing strategic and pragmatic regulatory advice to business, engineering, and compliance teams.
Experience working cross-functionally and using critical thinking to achieve business objectives.
Ability to handle and deliver across a number of top-priority projects.
Strong business acumen, excellent communication, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work optimally in a high-growth, fast paced environment.
Flexible and agile problem-solver who can tolerate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment where change is happening every day.
Ability to balance legal and business risk.
Good sense of humor and team spirit.
