The Role:

Second Harvest is looking for a seasoned AZ Driver-Ambassador to join our team. Reporting to the Fleet Supervisor, this position ensures delivery of all second Harvest food is executed in a safe and efficient manner and that the distribution of food is executed equitably to all member programs. The Driver-Ambassador also acts as a representative of Second Harvest by possessing awareness and understanding of issues related to hunger and homelessness in Toronto.

 

Your Impact:

  • Safely operate Second Harvest tractor‑trailers and straight box trucks to complete scheduled food pickups and deliveries, in compliance with all applicable traffic laws, safety standards, and organizational policies.
  • Couple and secure tractor‑trailers, including backing under the trailer, locking the fifth wheel to the kingpin, connecting air brake and electrical lines, raising landing gear, performing a tug test, and completing a post‑coupling inspection.
  • Perform complete circle checks and inspection logs of the assigned vehicle (tractor‑trailer or straight truck) at the beginning of each shift and report any safety or maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Deliver rescued food to member agencies in accordance with Health & Safety, food safety, and transportation regulations.
  • Load and unload assigned products into and out of the assigned vehicle for each shift, ensuring safe handling and secure placement of all items.
  • Handle food in a safe and responsible manner, ensuring all food is stored and transported in compliance with food safety standards.
  • Ensure food is stored appropriately (e.g., floor, freezer, cooler, or truck) and that vehicles are parked in designated and approved locations.
  • Collaborate with Driver‑Ambassadors, Lead Driver‑Ambassador, and the Fleet Supervisor to ensure food is distributed adequately and equitably across all routes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all food pickups, deliveries, and related documentation.
  • Provide a high level of customer service and professionalism when interacting with agencies, donors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support fleet and warehouse operations.
