Position Overview:

The Permit Manager oversees all permitting operations, ensuring compliance with municipal regulations and efficient coordination of permits, inspections, and associated documentation. This role requires strong organizational skills, leadership abilities, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards while supporting a dynamic team of permitting assistants and runners.

Key Responsibilities:

Permitting Operations Management:

  • Supervise and coordinate the work of permitting assistants and runners to ensure timely submission and processing of permits across multiple municipalities.
  • Oversee the preparation and distribution of necessary documents, including NOCs, BF65s, AHRI certifications, and inspection folders, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage tracking, reporting, and resolution of permit amendments, re-inspections, and cancellations.
  • Develop and maintain systems to ensure compliance with local building codes, including pressure test requirements and other municipality-specific mandates.

Team Leadership and Training:

  • Train and mentor team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and adherence to JOSKO’s values.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, balancing workloads and ensuring that team members have the resources needed to succeed.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex permitting issues, troubleshooting and resolving challenges efficiently.

Communication and Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary liaison with inspectors, municipalities, and customers, addressing scheduling conflicts, documentation issues, and other concerns.
  • Facilitate communication between the field team, office staff, and customers to ensure seamless coordination of permitting and inspection activities.
  • Monitor and respond to team emails and requests, ensuring timely follow-ups and resolution.

 

Reporting and Documentation:

  • Compile and analyze monthly permitting reports, tracking metrics such as permits issued, failures, amendments, and inspections completed.
  • Maintain records of work orders, inspection results, and permit statuses for auditing and operational purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational processes for gas receipts, material handling, and other administrative tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years in permitting or a related field, with 1-2 years in a supervisory role preferred.
  • Proven experience working with municipal permitting and building inspection processes.
  • Skills:
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including bilingual proficiency (preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional certifications in permitting or construction management are a plus.
