At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Are you a seasoned project engineer with a passion for driving innovation in complex infrastructure within a regulated, high-tech environment? At Roche, we are committed to pioneering solutions that advance global health, and we need a dedicated Project Engineer to lead vital capital infrastructure projects that bolster our facilities’ safety, efficiency, and compliance. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence Roche’s operational excellence by managing projects from inception to completion, ensuring they align with our strategic goals and contribute to sustainable growth.

In this dynamic role, you'll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—including engineering, operations, quality, and SHE—to deliver projects that meet regulatory standards and organizational needs. Your technical expertise will be essential in troubleshooting facility systems, optimizing utilities, and maintaining comprehensive documentation of infrastructure modifications. Roche’s culture of continuous improvement means your innovative ideas and process enhancements will help shape best practices across our global engineering network.

The Opportunity

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of capital projects, managing scope, schedule, and budget for initiatives typically ranging from $500K to $2M.

  • Develop precise project scopes by identifying core problems, functional requirements, and performing risk and cost-benefit analyses to recommend optimal solutions.

  • Oversee design reviews and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to promote space efficiency, asset utilization, and alignment with Roche’s site master plans.

  • Manage small to medium projects through all phases from conception to commissioning, qualification, and operational handover, ensuring seamless transitions.

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of site infrastructure systems—HVAC, electrical, utilities—and provide troubleshooting support for critical facilities.

  • Facilitate stakeholder coordination by preparing engineering documentation, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting change control processes.

  • Commit to continuous improvement by sharing best practices, supporting cross-site collaborations, and advancing engineering standards within Roche’s network

Who You Are

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline) or equivalent professional experience. A Professional Engineer (PE) license or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.

  • 5+ years of combined experience in project management, project engineering, or capital planning within regulated or high-tech manufacturing environments, including biotech, pharmaceutical, or similar industries, preferred.

  • Proven experience delivering capital projects from concept to completion, with responsibility for managing budgets and schedules. Experience with capital project governance frameworks such as stage-gate or portfolio management is advantageous.

  • Proficiency with MS Project, Smartsheet, or equivalent project management tools. Experience with SAP, AutoCAD, building management systems, or process control systems is a plus.

  • Strong knowledge of facility systems, utilities infrastructure, or building engineering, with familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) tools or digital asset management platforms preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting technical information effectively to diverse audiences.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across functions and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of FDA, GMP, or other pharmaceutical regulatory requirements, as well as continuous improvement certifications such as Six Sigma or Lean, is advantageous.
