We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join a dynamic team responsible for building, managing and maintaining the Verisign Kubernetes platform on which our mission-critical services depend. We prize engineering professionals who are equipped with great technical skills and attitudes that motivate those around them.

Our platform and our team

Our platform uses a mix of Open Source and commercial off-the-shelf software and targets a large on-premise bare-metal footprint using cloud-native constructs. The environment offers a secure-by-default configuration, implementing a GitOps-first approach, in-depth network micro-segmentation and governance policies. We follow a mostly Kanban workflow and adhere to devops and GitOps principles. We value fast iteration and a customer-oriented approach while being mindful about security. The team has strong expertise in Kubernetes, networking and operating an internal cloud but also has experience with application development. The team is geographically diverse, with presence in both Switzerland and the US.

Job responsibilities:

  • Develop the internal Kubernetes platform
  • Integrate platform components and operators; implement the deployment and monitoring for these following infrastructure as code (IaC), configuration as code (CaC) and GitOps principles
  • Develop and maintain an internal Kubernetes operator
  • Develop CI validation and verification of the code base
  • Adopt a security mindset as part of development and validation processes
  • Document the platform for use-of-use by application teams and the platform operations team
  • Coordinate with other technical staff to implement systems and software, prioritizing depending on business needs
  • Support operations functions, including root cause identification, remediation and documentation
  • Regularly re-assess the platform's internal ecosystem with the industry's leading solutions
  • Participate in a 24x7 on call rotation for tier 3 support

Preferred Skills, Experience, and Attributes:

An ideal candidate will have a blend of technical skills, an intention to grow themselves and those around them, and will have a combination of:

  • Experience with Kubernetes (and related ecosystem) configuration and administration
  • Experience developing mature solutions for monitoring and reporting using tools like Prometheus, Grafana and Splunk
  • Writing code with a high-level programming language such as Python or Go (aka Golang)
  • Experience writing and maintaining a Kubernetes operator
  • Understanding of security and network stack
  • Experience operating Linux and Unix systems in a large scale environment
  • Experience with managing an on-premise footprint
  • Experience with one cloud environment, such as AWS
  • Familiarity with development tools such as GitHub
  • Written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly and succinctly describe complex issues

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience developing or operating a Kubernetes platform in a production environment
  • Experience with one high-level programming language
  • Achieving this skill-set typically requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience, but we are open to alternative career paths
