With a commitment to patient and family centered care, the Patient Care Technician II (PCT II) provides advanced designateddirect and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of the licensed clinical team members in ways that
value the uniqueness of each individual and addresses the physiological, emotional, and social needs of the diversity of patients
served by Jefferson Health. The PCT II has advanced clinical skills and certifications, as well as the ability to act as
resource/mentor in the area of safe patient handling/de-escalation techniques/point of care testing.

Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners.
Performs designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs under direction of licensed clinical team members.
Actively promotes and maintains a safe patient care environment.
May be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate as needed based on campus needs
Provides assistance in maintaining supplies and equipment available to ensure efficient unit operations and acts as resource for training new staff on various supplies and equipment use.
Consistently demonstrates knowledge and advanced skills. The following are areas that demonstrate examples of advanced knowledge and skills. Each unit will apply based on unit needs and alternative care models:* Maintains ability to recognize and monitor individual patient’s EKG* Maintains ability to recognize and report hemodynamic instability and critical changes in patient condition* Maintains IV Insertion competency including IV insertion using Ultrasound guidance* Maintains advanced knowledge and experience with phlebotomy and lab specimen collection including T&S, Blood Cultures* Maintains competency regarding use of advanced medical equipment such as splinting, advanced rehab therapy equipment, trauma care, IABP, rapid infuser, central line and A line set ups. Works with professional development team to create training modules following vendor supplied information for use guidelines and best practice.
Acts as a coach/trainer to others team members.* In the acute rehab setting are able to act as transfer and positioning coach/trainer for specific patient populations.* Advanced skills in bladder scanning and intermittent catheterization*
Maintains skills regarding management of aggressive behavior and de – escalation techniques. Acts as a coach/trainer to others following formal training guidelines.

Education - Required
• High School Diploma/GED Diploma or equivalent required
Experience - Required
• 2 years Nursing Assistant, PCT or healthcare experience required. Certification and completion of advanced skills and
knowledge training within six months of hire accepted in lieu of experience requirement.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Required
• Healthcare Knowledge - Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs and their role in interprofessional team.
• Execution of Delegated Tasks - Ability to complete delegated tasks within scope of role.
• Daily Living Assistance - Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, and ability to apply this
knowledge to patients in need on a daily basis.
• Patient Safety - Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to
reduce these risks.
• Patient-and Family-Centered Practice- Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family
and/or designated care partner in care.
• Cultural Awareness- Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect
effectively.
• Effective Communication- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques, ability to effectively
transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate
communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health
and health care.
Licenses and Certifications - Required
• BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association
• CPCT - Certified Patient Care Technician - National Performance Specialists
Licenses and Certifications - Preferred
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - American Heart Association
• PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association
Additional Qualifications
