Job Title: Health Unit Coordinator
Department: Med Surge
Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule: 3 pm - 11 pm
SUMMARY:
A Health Unit Coordinator assists physicians, patients, visitors, and staff by answering inquiries, managing communications, and maintaining updated resource lists. They coordinate patient admissions, discharges, and appointments while ensuring accurate dietary and facility service updates. Additionally, they report equipment issues and process work orders to maintain unit efficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares, assembles, and maintains patient charts, ensuring accuracy and proper sequencing.
Assists with patient transfers, arranging ambulance or air transport as needed.
Supports discharge procedures by organizing and verifying chart documentation.
Maintains patient logbooks, reference files, and efficiently manages computer entries.
Transcribes physician orders under RN supervision, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Orders and stocks unit supplies from Central Services and Materials Management.
Updates reference books and Policy/Procedure manuals to ensure current guidelines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to read and transcribe physician orders.
Preferred knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills.
Strong communication skills to interact courteously with staff, patients, and visitors.

PAY RANGE:
$18.45 - $26.78The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
