Job Description

As a Back-End Java Developer reporting to Sr. Director – Software Engineering, you'll play a critical role in building and delivering a next-generation trade surveillance platform that powers compliance and market integrity for exchanges, regulators, and market participants worldwide.

You'll thrive in this position if you're resilient, solutions-oriented, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. A background in capital markets — particularly trading, clearing, or surveillance — will set you up for success from day one.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize back-end Java solutions for a high-volume, critically important trade surveillance platform.

  • Translate complex system requirements and business processes into robust, scalable software across multiple asset classes and data sources.

  • Drive continuous integration practices and maintain performance standards using profiling and monitoring tools.

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams to contribute to all stages of the software development lifecycle, from architecture through testing and deployment.

  • Apply deep technical expertise to identify performance bottlenecks, resolve issues efficiently, and deliver innovative solutions that meet evolving product requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • At least 3 years of software development experience, with strong expertise in back-end Java development.

  • Proven knowledge of core Java fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and networking protocols.

  • Proficiency with Linux environments and log analysis tools; familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and performance profiling.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in capital markets, fintech, or a regulated industry — particularly in trading, clearing, or surveillance functions.

  • Experience working with high transaction volumes and multiple asset classes (equities, fixed income, commodities).

  • Knowledge of AWS or other cloud platforms.

  • Exposure to global teams and multi-functional collaboration in fast-paced delivery environments.

This position will be located in Sydney, Australia and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment at least 2 days a week in-office (may increase to 3 days in the future).

This is a permanent, full-time role so candidates should have full working rights in Australia. To be eligible to apply, you must have Australian citizenship or permanent residency status.
