Summary

The Datacentre Field Applications Engineer (FAE) is responsible for driving and managing early customer engagement from architecture definition through design‑in and production deployment across key datacentre and networking infrastructure customers.

Working in close collaboration with the account team and business units, the FAE acts as a trusted technical advisor and system‑level owner for optical networking and power applications. This role supports customers in defining, developing, and deploying high‑performance solutions while enabling sustained design wins and long‑term business growth.

Responsibilities

  • Drive system‑level design engagement and application leadership for optical networking and power solutions across datacentre and infrastructure platforms
  • Engage with customers at the architecture and concept phase to understand requirements and influence platform definition
  • Act as the primary technical interface between customers, account teams, and internal engineering groups
  • Support design and specification development, ensuring alignment between customer needs and product capabilities
  • Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations, and hands‑on support at customer sites
  • Collaborate with Account Managers to identify, shape, and advance new opportunities
  • Own and drive resolution of debug, validation, and integration challenges throughout the development lifecycle
  • Provide structured updates on customer activities, ongoing projects, and future opportunities using CRM tools (e.g. MS Dynamics)
  • Contribute customer insights to Business Units, supporting new product definition and continuous improvement
  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with customer engineering teams and key stakeholders
  • Anticipate technical challenges and proactively drive resolution to maintain project momentum

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (or equivalent)
  • ~5–8 years of relevant experience in Field Applications, Design Engineering, or related roles
  • Experience supporting datacentre, networking, or telecom infrastructure applications
  • Good understanding of:
    • Optical networking systems (e.g. optical modules, transceivers, high‑speed signal chains)
    • Power management architectures
    • High‑speed system design, signal integrity, and hardware integration
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with customer and internal teams
  • Organised and capable of managing multiple customer activities simultaneously
  • Willingness to travel as required
  • Full driving licence
