Akron General’s 9100 Neuroscience Unit is a private 22-bed unit that cares for patients who suffer from strokes, TBI (Traumatic Brain Injuries), spinal cord injuries and s/p craniotomy (after staying in NSICU). As a Health Unit Clerk, you will provide a high level of customer service to patients, families, visitors and employees to promote and support the highest level of patient experience 

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. including every other weekend rotation and 3 holidays per year requirements. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

  • Perform administrative and clerical duties.  
  • Conduct an in-person greeting and welcome newly admitted and transferred patients to the unit.  
  • Communicate with and facilitate communication between patients, families, other departments and healthcare team members regarding patient care.  
  • Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.  
  • Provide concierge service to assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.  
  • Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.  
  • Troubleshoot equipment.  
  • Respond to patient call lights.  
  • Keep nursing stations clean and organized.  
  • Complete mandatory education and training. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • One year of experience in a customer service-related role 
  • Prior job experience with typing or computer training or equivalent coursework 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • Microsoft Office experience 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
