The primary purpose of this position is to perform housekeeping duties in an assigned area of the Samarcand Training Academy.  Employee in this job follow a work schedule that covers all phases of housekeeping to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors. Employee will clean dorm rooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas. Specific responsibilities include but is not limited to:

Cleaning ceilings, vents, and walls.
Polishing furniture.
Dusting and vacuuming.
Maintaining floors including mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing.
Shampooing carpets.
Washing windows, screens, and blinds.
Cleaning and changing soiled or worn linen, pillows, and bed covers.
Replenishing restrooms with towels, toilet paper, and soap.
Cleaning lavatories, commodes, urinals, mirrors, showers, and tubs.


Employees in this job perform their work under close supervision.  Their work is reviewed by supervisory inspections and they receive frequent direction from supervisors.  Employees in this job are also assigned a daily schedule for general assignments and specific instructions for special assignments. Employees in this job must be able to perform medium- to heavy-duty physical work including but not limited to:

Extending arms over head, lifting mop buckets, and pushing heavy carts. R
Removing trash from receptacles in all areas including from up to 55-gallon containers.
Lifting and carrying boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.
Climbing four-foot ladders to clean windows, stock laundry cabinets and dust.
Moving or sliding heavy furniture up to 200 pounds. 


ADA Physical Requirements will be discussed during the interview.

Employment contingent on successful background check.

Must have a valid NC Driver License.

May require travel and extended hours during peak times and mission needs.

Salary Range: $36,921.00 - $48,810.00

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, and health insurance. DPS uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions subject to the State Human Resources Act with the most qualified individuals. Management Preferences

  • Experience using established cleaning procedures and and/or techniques.

  • Experience using products and equipment used in a cleaning operation.

  • Experience providing customer service.

  • Experience using a computer.
