Job Description

The OpsTech Networking LAN team builds next-generation LAN infrastructure that powers Amazon's global fulfillment and operations network. The team manages LAN connectivity, network device provisioning, and configuration management for over 2,800 sites worldwide, assisting Amazon Operations and Grocery businesses.

We are seeking a Network Development Engineer II to design and implement horizontally scalable LAN architecture. You will work on initiatives that automate network device provisioning, manage firmware campaigns across thousands of devices, and improve network availability through enhanced configuration management systems. Your work will directly impact configuration deployment automation, device configuration standardization, and the management of over 173,000+ LAN network devices across multiple site types.

Key job responsibilities
As an NDE II on the LAN team, you will:
- Solve complex technical problems involving Cisco switching technology, network automation, config deployments, and device provisioning systems.
- Design solutions that are scalable, testable, maintainable, and efficient. Information security and network reliability are fundamental to your approach.
- Work autonomously on major portions of LAN network technology implementation, applying best practices while making pragmatic trade-offs that consider both short-term operational needs and long-term business requirements.
- Operate the largest fulfillment network in the world, working with technologies including Cisco and other vendor network devices, config management, network automation tools, and configuration management systems.
- Leverage AI-powered tools to enhance network operations, diagnostics, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with customers and stakeholders to develop project ideas into project plans, participate actively in design reviews and operational reviews, and mentor team members.
- Driving root cause resolution of network events most impactful to the business.

About the team
OTN Edge is the networking vertical within Amazon's Operations Technology organization, steward for design, deployment, and lifecycle management of edge network infrastructure across Amazon's global fulfillment network. The team manages over 99.9% network availability across thousands of sites, operates a capital plan exceeding $122 million annually, and is executing a multi-year transformation toward a unified, software-defined network architecture. The TPM hired into this role will operate at the intersection of infrastructure modernization, organizational standards leadership, and next-generation network capacity planning, directly shaping the network that powers Amazon's fulfillment operations worldwide.

Basic Qualifications

- 4+ years of major internet routing protocols experience
- 4+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Three or more years of experience designing and operating large-scale production networks
- Three or more years of experience with major routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF
- Three or more years of experience with routing and switching hardware from major vendors including Cisco and Juniper
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and operate network solutions that are secure, stable, testable, and maintainable
- Strong documentation skills with proven methodology for creating clear technical documentation
- Experience building or enhancing tools, developing best practices, refining operational procedures, and thinking proactiv
