About the role

**Federal work-study students only**

Overview:

In partnership with Student Financial Services Meals on Wheels of Charlottesville/Albemarle is recruiting a Undergraduate Federal Work Study student to work as an Meals on Wheels Office Assistant. Meals on Wheels is located at 704 Rose Hill Drive Charlottesville Virginia 22903.

Meals on Wheels of Charlottesville/Albemarle is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has been serving neighbors since 1977. Meals on Wheels provides a hot, nutritious meal and a wellness check to community members who have difficulty both accessing and preparing food for themselves. We currently have an active volunteer force of over 600 and serve meals to approximately 250 clients in the city of Charlottesville and the county of Albemarle. Meals on Wheels provides a source of daily social contact for people who would otherwise be alone. It also allows for earlier release from hospitals and long-term care facilities and helps keep elderly and disabled persons out of institutions altogether. It can help older married couples to remain together and gives many people the opportunity to live in their own homes for longer periods of time. Because volunteers check on meal recipients every day, people who live alone can feel safe, knowing that someone would notice if anything were to happen to them.

Duties:

  • Develop team-building skills through working on special projects involving media coverage, outreach events, and community programs.
  • Improve professional verbal and written communication by assisting management with volunteer and client related tasks.
  • Assisting with daily operations including meal-packing hot and cold meals to be delivered to each client, as well as printing daily overview reports.
  • Updating and fulfilling all volunteer substitution requests.
  • Delivering unfulfilled routes.
  • Performing routine call-backs to check on welfare of clients.
  • Engaging in strategic plan team meetings.
  • Expand organizational and multi-tasking skill sets when completing routine administrative duties with the goal of ensuring all meals are delivered daily in a timely manner.

Candidates must be Federal Work Study recipients.
