As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will utilize the latest medical equipment and technology to attain functional images, prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals, and perform various non-imaging studies as necessary. By taking this opportunity, you will provide uninterrupted coverage for our Nuclear Medicine and PET service lines as well as improve patient outcomes by providing critical information needed to diagnose and create the care plan. This role offers an excellent way to enhance your current skillsets, gain extensive hands-on experience and make a difference in the lives of patients every day.
A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) from 6:30AM – 4:30PM, which includes two days per month/every other Tuesday.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform elution of 99mTc generators, prepare radiopharmaceuticals and ensure compliance with regulations and recommendations by state/federal regulatory and accreditation agencies.
Perform hot lab responsibilities, such as elution of generator according to prescribed procedure and manufacturer specifications using aseptic technique.
Perform elute quality control using aseptic technique.
Perform radiopharmaceuticals kit preparations and quality control according to departmental procedure and manufacturer specifications using aseptic techniques.
Label and record required documentation according to department procedures.
Administer radiopharmaceuticals according to department protocol using aseptic technique in compliance with state/federal regulations and accreditation agencies.
Ascertain correct patient, study and radiopharmaceuticals by checking patient ID, requisitions and radiopharmaceuticals label prior to radiopharmaceutical administration.
Properly record pharmaceuticals.
Educate patients regarding procedures, equipment and exams to ensure understanding and cooperation.
Ensure patient safety during and after exams.
Assist with scheduling patients as needed.
Perform venipuncture as necessary and maintain competencies.
Perform quality control and assurance procedures.
Perform daily, weekly, quarterly and annual procedures on dose calibrators, scintillation well counter and thyroid probes and scintillation cameras.
Identify, document and report sub-optimum results to supervisor.
Adhere to Department of Health, TJC and department regulations governing performance of above procedures.
Maintain required record keeping and documentation for all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Acquire, archive, transmit and print images via PACS.
Complete after-hours transmission of images and appropriate paperwork.
Process billing via RIS.
Perform nuclear imaging/counting procedures according to department protocols and computer acquisition and analysis.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Medicine OR graduate of a two-year accredited school in an Allied Health Program OR certification from a CAHEA approved Nuclear Medicine Technologist Training Program
Registered Technologist credentialed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists [R.T(N) (ARRT)] in good standing OR Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) through the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
Current state licensure (RL)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Physical Requirements:
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.
Requires exposure to radioactive material.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
