The NC Department of Administration is the business manager for North Carolina state government. The department oversees Government Operations such as building construction, purchasing and contracting for goods and services, maintaining facilities, managing state vehicles, acquiring and disposing of real property, and operating auxiliary services such as courier mail delivery and the sale of state and federal surplus property. Description of Work
This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of potable water including hot and cold water, drainage, and wastewater fixtures, piping, and components. The position is also responsible for the routine maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of hot water heaters.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state’s population that have traditionally been underserved. The agency’s mission directs departmental efforts to: acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
- Ability to install plumbing systems per plans and specifications
- Ability to diagnose and make repairs to malfunctioning plumbing systems, fixtures and components
- Ability to use the tools and test equipment commonly used in Plumbing
- Working knowledge of State and local plumbing codes
- Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of building hot and cold-water systems, steam distribution and condensate return systems, waste removal systems, irrigation systems and drainage systems
- Working knowledge of steam distribution and condensate return systems.
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:
- The position requires standing for long periods of time and performing manual labor.
- The individual hired for this position must be capable of strenuous lifting, crawling and working at heights up to twenty-five feet or more as well as working in confined spaces such as manholes
- The position may require exposure to extreme environmental conditions.
- The position may require the use of a respirator and other personal protective equipment medical certification is required to verify the individual’s ability to wear and use a respirator. This is a condition of employment.
- The position requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or more than 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- The position may require working in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, sewage and water line pipes and other confined spaces.
- The individual hired for this position must be familiar with building, life and safety codes.
- Employee must complete Entry Permit Confined Space Training within 90 days of hire.
- Employee must complete Asbestos Operation Maintenance and Removal Training within 90 days of hire.
- Employee is required to wear a uniform, picture ID badge, use safety equipment and follow safety regulations which are provided by the state.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Division prefers applicants with at least (5) years of progressive experience in industrial/commercial Plumbing
