About the role
A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That’s what makes us Roche.
Advances in AI, data, and computational sciences are transforming drug discovery and development. Roche’s Research and Early Development organisations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) have demonstrated how these technologies accelerate R&D, leveraging data and novel computational models to drive impact. Seamless data sharing and access to models across gRED and pRED are essential to maximising these opportunities. The Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic, unified group whose goal is to harness this transformative power of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist our scientists in delivering more innovative and transformative medicines for patients worldwide.
We seek a creative and highly accomplished scientist to develop and execute Genentech/Roche’s Foundational Data and Models strategy in Computational Neuroscience, helping to deliver new treatments for neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS and multiple sclerosis, in the department of Computational Biology & Medicine within the Roche Computational Sciences Center of Excellence (CS-CoE).
The Opportunity:
Working within and extending Roche’s existing data ecosystems to accelerate our Neuroscience portfolio.
Developing strategy to effectively mine large data and drive science using LLMs, advanced automation and AI agents.
Analysis and integration of human genetic, single-cell atlases, perturbation and other data types to derive novel insights into the pathobiology of neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases.
Nomination of new entries to Neuroscience department Target Assessment Portfolio and identification of new biomarkers for existing therapeutic programs.
Serving as computational lead on pipeline programs, supporting target validation, mechanism of action, safety and biomarker studies
Who You Are:
PhD or equivalent with in-depth training in a relevant field, and deep understanding of both biological pathways relevant to neurodegeneration/neuroimmunology and computational methods to study these pathways (Senior Scientist). Additionally, successful postdoctoral research or ≥3 years equivalent experience after PhD (Principal Scientist).
The ideal candidate will have deep experience in many of the following types of analysis:
Perturb-seq and related CRISPR screening
Patient tissue or CSF/PBMC atlases
Use of human genetics to prioritize drug targets
Familiarity with AI approaches and AI agents to enable scientific insights
A track record of impactful scientific achievement, which may be demonstrated by co-first/lead as well as contributing author publications
Excellent communication skills and evidence of success in complex, multidisciplinary environments
Onsite presence, on our South San Francisco campus, is expected for at least 3 days a week.
Relocation benefits will be available for this posting.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $130,800 - $242,800 (Senior Scientist) and $150,700 - $279,900 (Principal Scientist). Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
