About the role
Personalis is a genome-scale diagnostics company with a mission to pioneer genome guided medicine. Our priority is to obtain the most accurate genetic data from each sample, and then to draw the most reliable medically-focused conclusions from these. Our tests are based on whole human genome and exome sequencing, conducted in our state-of-the art laboratory. We analyze results utilizing proprietary databases, advanced human reference sequences, and sophisticated algorithms. Personalis is based in Fremont, California.
Summary:
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Director of Advanced Technologies to lead a team in scoping, evaluating, and implementing cutting-edge advancements in sequencing, sample preparation and new assay creation. This role will drive innovation in our proprietary technologies, enhancing performance and expanding capabilities. Your contributions will play a key role in shaping the next generation of genomics-based precision medicine products, supporting immuno-oncology, cancer clinical trials, diagnostics, and therapeutics used by pharma, biotech, hospitals, and clinicians.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the advanced technology strategy, ensuring alignment with company objectives and long-term vision.
- Lead efforts to evaluate and integrate new technologies that expand and improve Personalis products.
- Participate in forward-looking strategic planning and influence company-wide technology adoption.
- Identify new initiatives and build consensus across various stakeholder groups with clear success measures.
- Work closely with bioinformatics teams to design experiments and validate new procedures and analytics.
- Partner with the operations teams to ensure the smooth adoption of new technologies.
- Collaborate across functions to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions that drive efficiency.
- Influence company policy and strategy by partnering executive leadership.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of scientists to drive innovation and operational excellence.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, inclusion, and professional growth for all team members.
- Ensure accountability for results and provide strategic focus to support both short- and long-term organizational success.
- Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and influence across all levels of the organization.

Education & Experience:
- Ph.D in a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience, preferably in molecular biology.
- Minimum of 5 years of management experience, with a proven ability to set a clear vision, establish expectations, and motivate teams to achieve results.
- Demonstrated success in driving performance, achieving objectives, and leading teams to meet departmental goals.
- Strong communication, presentation, and influencing skills, with the ability to effectively engage and gain support from senior leadership.
- Expertise in strategic thinking, decision-making, and negotiation, ensuring smooth daily business operations.
The hiring range for this position is $240,000 to $285,000 per year, which may factor in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Our full-time regular positions also include an annual performance-based bonus (or a sales incentive plan) and long-term incentive units (equity) provided as part of our compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
