PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The purpose of the Field Service Technical Trainer is to support the development, onboarding, and technical readiness of entry level Field Service employees by delivering structured training in electrical systems, equipment startup, commissioning processes, troubleshooting, software tools, safety practices, and related field service functions. This role helps ensure new and existing Field Service employees gain the technical knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed to perform successfully and safely in the field.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but requires close collaboration with Field Service leadership, shop leads, production teams, engineering, technicians, and other internal stakeholders to support training delivery and employee development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Deliver technical training for new and existing Field Service employees in support of onboarding, field readiness, and ongoing employee development.
  • Manage and facilitate the 4-week new hire orientation training schedule for Field Service employees.
  • Provide instruction in areas such as mechanical assembly, wiring, startup testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, software tools, networking and communications, report writing, and related technical field service processes.
  • Conduct classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations, workshops, lab sessions, and other interactive training methods to support different learning needs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate practical exercises that provide trainees with real-world experience working with electrical equipment, tools, and technologies.
  • Evaluate trainee performance, technical comprehension, practical skill development, and overall readiness through assessments, observations, quizzes, practical exercises, and related feedback methods.
  • Provide constructive coaching and developmental feedback to trainees to reinforce learning and improve performance.
  • Maintain accurate and organized training records for Field Service personnel.
  • Partner with production, engineering, Field Service leadership, shop leads, and technicians to identify training needs, operational gaps, and opportunities for program improvement.
  • Assist in reviewing, updating, and enhancing training materials and program content to ensure training remains current, relevant, and aligned with operational needs and company goals.
  • Support qualification training for employees working on or near energized electrical equipment.
  • Help ensure consistency, quality, and effectiveness in technical training delivery across the Field Service function.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

  • Communication & Presentation Skills: Communicates technical information clearly, accurately, and professionally to learners with varying levels of knowledge and experience; adjusts communication style as needed to promote understanding, engagement, and retention.
  • Coaching & Employee Development: Provides guidance, constructive feedback, and day-to-day support to trainees and employees to reinforce learning, improve performance, address skill gaps, and encourage ongoing development.
  • Technical Knowledge & Application: Demonstrates working knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical assembly, startup testing, troubleshooting, commissioning processes, software tools, and related field service practices; applies technical expertise to training content and practical instruction.
  • Assessment & Evaluation: Assesses trainee progress, technical comprehension, practical skill development, and overall readiness through observation, testing, hands-on exercises, and other evaluation methods; identifies strengths, deficiencies, and additional training needs.
  • Organization & Training Administration: Maintains organized training schedules, materials, records, and documentation; ensures training activities are planned, tracked, and completed in a timely and accurate manner.
