Job Description

When you join Verizon

At Verizon, we power and empower how people live, work and play by connecting them to what brings them joy. We do what we love — driving innovation, creativity, and impact in the world. Our V Team is a community of people who anticipate, lead, and believe that listening is where learning begins. What you will be doing...

In this role, you will provide advanced-tiered operational support for the Verizon Cloud Platform (VCP) Webscale. You will be a key player in the end-to-end lifecycle of clusters, moving beyond simple maintenance to active participation in aggressive Plan of Record (POR) build-outs. This role requires a hybrid skillset of hardware diagnostic expertise, deep Kubernetes/OpenShift knowledge, and a customer-first mindset when supporting our application tenant teams.

  • Expertise in Kubernetes / OpenShift cloud operations and infrastructure support

  • Experience and understanding of Service proxy, ingress controller, storage volumes, and tenant/namespace management

  • Stakeholder management - engagement and communication with internal customers and peer teams to support and drive issue resolution.

  • Troubleshooting failures and productivity-impacting events.

  • Cluster Build-out: Drive the deployment and commissioning of new Webscale and, where needed, OpenStack clusters to meet aggressive POR timelines, ensuring all sites are "production-ready" according to engineering standards.

  • Hardware Lifecycle Support: Diagnose and remediate physical infrastructure failures (Servers, NVMe Storage, SmartNICs) by coordinating with vendors for field dispatches and remote-hands support.

  • Software & Platform Operations: Provide support for the OpenShift/Kubernetes stack, including Service Proxy, CNI plugins, and storage volume troubleshooting.

  • Tenant Empowerment: Act as the technical point of contact for application teams (tenants), ensuring their workloads are successfully onboarded and optimized for the cloud environment.

  • Automation & Efficiency: Identify manual bottlenecks in the build process and develop Python, Ansible-based, or ArgoCD automation to reduce the total time-to-market for new capacity.

  • Operational Reliability: Participate in feedback loops with upstream Engineering teams to improve platform telemetry and near real-time visibility into VCP health.

What we’re looking for...

This position requires independent thinking and a creative mindset with the ability to leverage automation to eliminate manual processes and provide near real-time visibility into system health and performance. The candidate must be able to identify deficiencies and quickly develop solutions to help improve reliability and add operational efficiencies.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Four or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience in cloud operations.

  • Hardware Proficiency: Experience diagnosing server-level hardware issues and managing vendor hardware SLAs.

  • Deployment Experience: Proven track record of meeting strict deployment deadlines, plan of record (POR) in a telecommunications or large-scale data center environment.

  • Experience with deploying, configuring, and supporting OpenShift and OpenStack.

  • Flexibility to be available for any on-call support, working on night shifts/flexible schedule on a weekly basis.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Demonstrated Linux System Administration Skills.

  • Experience deploying, configuring, and supporting OpenStack and/or OpenShift.

  • Experience with Service Proxy for Kubernetes.

  • Advanced Networking: Knowledge of OVN-Kubernetes, Multus CNI, and Layer 7 Service Mesh.

  • A degree in engineering, computer science or related discipline.

  • Nice to have network certifications CCNA, CCP, or equivalent proficiencies.

  • Experience working with modern configuration management tools such as Puppet / Ansible.

  • Experience with Linux systems administration, preferably in a virtualised environment.

  • Strong scripting skills such as Python, Bash.

  • Trouble shooting any issue in container network functions, virtualisation, hypervisor, Servers and networks handling maintenance windows.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.

Where you’ll be working

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.
