Responsible for leading the analysis and interpretation of data and development of actionable insights and recommendations for high-value business challenges for specific business units.  This includes leading discussions with stakeholders to identify value opportunities with company data.  Conceives and directs development of predictive and prescriptive systems to optimize operations and support strategic initiatives, using cutting edge information technology and data science methods.  Designs and delivers clear messages using the best visualization methods to support management decision making. Mentors junior data scientists on technical methodology and business acumen. 

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Develop advanced analytical tools to solve high-value business problems across AEP.Proficiently utilize analytical tools and data management skills to provide actionable business intelligence.Ensure pertinent data is acquired to solve advanced business problems.

Develop predictive and prescriptive systems to optimize operations and support strategic initiatives.Apply data visualization tools to large data sets to enhance data understanding.

Perform research to keep abreast of industry practices and participate in industry forums.

Maintain an ongoing collaborative relationship with business partners.Evaluate business unit partner needs and provide guidance as to the value additional analyses could provide.Collaborate and oversee outsourced studies.

Lead development of scientific studies which measure business value achieved from analytics contributions.

Develop concise meaningful written reports and provide oral presentation to business partners and management.Track study progress and provide management with study status reports.

May provide training and mentoring, as well as work direction, to others on the team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Bachelors degree in mathematics, operations research, statistics, economics, data science, computer science or related technical field is required.

Experience: 5 years of relevant work experience is required.An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Experience with analytics packages such as SAS, R, SPSS.
