About the role
Open Application Overview
We’re always excited to connect with exceptional people here at Unit 410 — because we believe in growing a strong team by building relationships before we need to hire.
If you're excited about what we're building, we'd love to get to know you — whether the timing is right today, or months from now.
This is a special team, made up of folks who have worked on some of the world’s most high-impact technologies, at places like NASA, Google, Coinbase, and Twitter.
We're frequently the team powering the “next big thing” in crypto. We support large, early holders on networks and work directly with founders and CTOs. Peers often look to us as industry leaders.
As a member of the Unit 410 team, you will enjoy autonomy and be encouraged to lean into intellectual curiosity. Your work here can make an impact not just on the company, but often across the broader crypto industry.
Tell us what drives you — the hard problems you can’t stop thinking about, the impact you’re hungry to make. If your ambition aligns, we’ll find a way to build together.
Role Overview
The Encryption Engineering team builds the core systems that make self-custody wallet generation and secure crypto operations possible – we design for security in a fast-moving world of digital assets. We design and scale backend services that connect with cutting-edge cryptocurrency SDKs, master the inner workings of emerging blockchain networks, and engineer key management solutions that power the next wave of crypto innovation.
Note: This role requires the flexibility to work on-site in Austin roughly one day per week.
What You’ll Be Doing
Build & Scale Backend Systems: Architect and ship backend services that integrate seamlessly with the newest cryptocurrency SDKs.
Dive Deep Into Networks: Dissect and understand novel blockchain networks—everything from payloads and contract calls to consensus mechanisms.
Novel Key Management: Design and embed key generation and signing into our infrastructure to support newly launched protocols.
Automate Relentlessly: Build fault-tolerant systems first, then aggressively automate workflows to eliminate manual effort as use cases evolve.
Harden Every Layer: Partner with internal and external security experts to reinforce our stack—software, hardware, and protocols alike.
Shape the Future: Spot opportunities in fast-moving crypto ecosystems and lead integrations with the most promising new protocols.
Who You Are
Proven experience running and supporting production systems at scale.
Deep curiosity for exploring blockchain networks at their most granular levels.
An automation-first mindset — you’d rather build tools than babysit systems.
Based in (or willing to relocate to) Austin, Texas.
Comfortable working in an on-site environment in Austin, TX for 1-2 days / week.
Bonus Points
Experience with technologies such as:
Coreboot / Heads
Reproducible Builds
Tech Stack & Tooling
Languages that power scale: Primarily Go (Golang) and Rust, though we always choose the right tool for the job.
Next-gen protocols: From privacy-preserving systems and Layer 2s to Tendermint, Substrate, cross-chain bridges, and beyond.
Security at the core: Alpine Linux hardening and advanced system security practices.
