Job Description

Fluid Management Technician
a. SUPPLIER shall assist Fluids Management with transportation and additions of chemicals. Work orders will be issued at the start of the day by fluid management. Some emergency work orders may be issued throughout the day.
b. Make all chemical additions
i. Drop-line additions: Many systems have drop lines where additions can be made. A working meter must be attached to the line so that the exact amount of coolant can be measured. The initial meter reading is noted on the work order form. Open the drop line and make the addition, monitoring the meter throughout the entire process. Do not leave the meter while the addition is being made. When the correct amount of chemical has been added, close the drop line and note the ending meter reading on the work order.
ii. Tote additions: For systems not connected to drop lines, or systems without working meters, additions must be made by tote or drum. The tote must be moved to the appropriate system and an addition must be made. Additions should be made in an area of the system that is circulating. If the system is not circulating, make the addition at a later time when it is circulating. Attach the hose assembly to the tote and note the level of fluid in the tote. All totes have scales on the side to indicate gallons. Use these marks to add the correct amount of fluid to the system. When the correct amount has been added, close the valve and drain any remaining fluid out of the hose. Remove the hose assembly from the tote and return the tote to storage. When drum additions are required, contact Fluids Management for a pump and further instructions. When a tote is half empty, please notify Fluids Management so that another may be ordered.
iii. Day-Tank additions: Many central systems and washers have day-tanks attached to them. These tanks must be kept full. The Day-Tank refill process is as follows:
1. Day-tanks should be checked three times weekly.
2. Lift the lid and evaluate the level of coolant concentrate in the tank. If the tank is not full, an addition should be made to the tank until it is full.
3. Open the valve on the coolant drop-line to the day-tank. Allow the tank to fill while monitoring the process.
4. When the tank is full, close the valve.
5. Note how many gallons were added to the day-tank on the Work Order sheet. This can be determined by the meter on the drop-line or by level indicator on the side of the day-tank.
6. Close the lid to the day-tank.
iv. When day tanks are not connected to drop-lines, additions must be made from a tote. Follow the guidelines set for tote additions. Always note on the work order sheet how many gallons were added to which system’s day-tank.
v. Refilling stand-alone totes: There are several totes of chemicals located through the facility. These totes periodically need to be refilled. These totes are refilled from other totes, as well as drop lines. Fluid Management will communicate with the laborer when these additions are needed. Any further instructions will be given at that time.
vi. Pail Additions: Must be capable of lifting 60 gallon pails.
vii. Transport all Chemicals:
1. Receiving Dock: All totes, drums, pails, and other chemical supplies must be removed from the receiving dock. They are then stored in various places throughout the facility. All chemical storage areas must be kept in a neat and orderly manner, using minimal space. Remove all paper work from the chemicals and return to Fluids Management.
2. Moving Drums and Totes: Drums and totes must be moved to various locations throughout the facility. When replacing an empty tote, disassemble the fitting from the empty before removing the tote. Move the tote to the outside storage area located near the South Gate. Replace the tote with a full one and reassemble the fitting. Drums will be moved to a predetermined location. Empty drums should be removed and disposed of.
3. Removal of Totes from the Facility: Periodically, empty totes must be sent back to their respective companies. When the covered storage area is full, notify Fluids Management and a Debit Memo will be generated. Shipping will be contacted to schedule a freight carrier. When the freight carrier arrives, load the empty totes onto the truck. Sign off on the proper paperwork and return to Fluids Management.
4. Unloading Tankers: Security will notify Fluids Management and the laborer when a tank truck has arrived. The laborer will meet the tanker outside at waste treatment. Make certain that the tanker is hooked up to the appropriate tank and monitor the process of moving the chemical from the tank truck to the tank farm. . Sign off on the proper paperwork and return to Fluids Management.
