This role provides oversight across all tax disciplines—including income tax, transfer pricing, indirect tax, and tax governance—ensuring compliance, efficiency, and alignment with the company’s broader business and risk objectives.

The Head of Tax partners closely with executive leadership, business leaders, regulators, and external advisors to manage tax risk, optimize the global effective tax rate, and support strategic initiatives such as reinsurance structures, capital management, M&A, and international growth.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and lead the global tax strategy in alignment with the company’s business model, risk appetite, and long-term objectives.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on tax implications of strategic decisions, including capital structure, reinsurance arrangements, and jurisdictional expansion.
  • Provide leadership to a global tax team, fostering a strong control environment, talent development, and succession planning.

Global Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Oversee global tax compliance and reporting across all jurisdictions, including corporate income tax, withholding taxes, premium taxes, and indirect taxes.
  • Ensure accurate and timely tax filings, provisioning, and disclosures under US GAAP.
  • Maintain strong internal controls over tax processes in coordination with Finance, Audit, and Risk functions.

Transfer Pricing & International Tax

  • Design and maintain robust transfer pricing policies appropriate for a global insurance and reinsurance operating model, including underwriting, risk transfer, and service arrangements.
  • Lead the organization’s approach to OECD initiatives, including BEPS and Pillar Two, and assess impacts on the global tax footprint and effective tax rate.
  • Manage cross‑border tax matters, including permanent establishment risk and treaty positioning.

Insurance & Reinsurance‑Specific Tax Matters

  • Provide deep expertise on tax considerations related to insurance and reinsurance operations, including retrocession structures, captives, and regulated entities.
  • Partner with actuarial, legal, and risk teams on reserving, pricing, and regulatory issues with tax implications.
  • Support regulatory interactions and audits with global tax authorities and insurance regulators.

M&A, Restructuring & Special Projects

  • Lead tax planning and execution for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and legal entity restructuring.
  • Evaluate tax implications of new products, distribution models, and operational changes.
  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors to ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective support.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field; advanced degree or CPA strongly preferred.
  • 20+ years of progressive insurance tax experience, with significant leadership responsibility in a multinational insurance, reinsurance, or financial services organization and/or a top professional services firm.
  • Deep technical expertise in global corporate tax, international tax, transfer pricing, and tax accounting.
  • Strong understanding of insurance and reinsurance operating models and related tax considerations.
  • Proven ability to lead global teams, manage complex stakeholder environments, and operate effectively at the executive level.

Leadership Attributes

  • Strategic, commercial mindset with strong judgment and risk awareness.
  • Ability to translate complex tax matters into clear, actionable guidance for senior leaders and boards.
  • Collaborative leader with the credibility to influence across Finance, Legal, Risk, and the business.
  • High integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to strong governance and controls.

The base salary range for this position is $344,000 - $512,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location. All offers include access to a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
