Quantium-Telstra (QT) is kicking off a landmark AI transformation with Telstra InfraCo, modernising how Australia’s digital backbone plans, builds and operates critical infrastructure. 

As a Senior Data Scientist, you’ll be embedded in cross-functional QT–InfraCo squads, reporting to QT Leads and working directly with InfraCo stakeholders to turn AI opportunities into production reality. You’ll run discovery and design sessions, coordinate delivery across business and technical teams, hands-on build AI and ML solutions, and track measurable value as capabilities go live.

How will you make an impact? 

  • Drive use-case delivery: Own AI use cases end-to-end — from discovery and design through pilot, production and adoption. Manage risks, dependencies and stakeholder alignment, coordinating effectively with adjacent workstreams, QT Leads and InfraCo stakeholders.
  • Applied DS and GenAI build: Translate business problems into AI solutions. Lead agent design and prototyping, design evaluation approaches, and drive integration with InfraCo workflows and platforms — making informed technical trade-offs that balance fitness-for-purpose, scalability and return on effort.
  • Productionise AI: Drive the transition from prototypes to robust, supportable products — including prompt and agent design, evaluation frameworks, guardrails and iterative improvement.
  • Change and adoption: Partner with InfraCo teams to embed new AI ways of working, develop and facilitate training, and establish measurement frameworks to evidence business impact.
  • Uplift team capability: Coach and support more junior team members on technical standards, problem-solving approaches and delivery practices.

The superpowers you’ll be bringing to the team:

  • Technical depth: Hands-on experience with Python, SQL, Azure and LangGraph, applied to real AI and ML delivery — from prototyping through to production.
  • AI and GenAI expertise: Practical experience with applied data science and GenAI — use-case framing, agent design, evaluation and productionisation — with the judgement to make sound technical trade-offs.
  • Stakeholder fluency: A clear communicator who can translate between business outcomes and technical requirements, and who’s comfortable facilitating across diverse technical and business teams.
  • Delivery mindset: Experience leading workstreams in fast-moving environments — navigating ambiguity, managing risks and keeping things moving, with an eye on measurable impact.

Required experience and capabilities

  • Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills; comfortable working across diverse technical and business teams
  • Experience delivering complex initiatives in fast-moving environments; able to navigate ambiguity and prioritise effectively
  • Clear communicator who can translate between business outcomes and technical requirements
  • Experience leading workstreams of moderate complexity, including informal mentoring of more junior team members
  • Hands-on exposure to applied data science and/or GenAI (e.g. use-case framing, prototyping, evaluation, productionisation)
  • Experience with Python, SQL, Azure and LangGraph
