A Day in the Life

We are seeking a committed professional to join our team. While this is a remote position not located at a physical Medtronic site, the candidate hired will be required to reside within the territory and drive to multiple accounts throughout the region. A valid driver's license is essential for this role.

         

         

The Executive Surgical Conversion Specialist (SCS) is a high-impact, field-based clinical leader and logistical strategist. You will be the primary architect of the "Product Conversion Process," managing the physical and clinical transition of hospital suture and wound closure inventory from competitors to Medtronic. This role is the critical bridge between a signed contract and long-term clinical adoption, ensuring that Medtronic technology becomes the standard of care in the Operating Room.

Job Responsibilities

1. Clinical & Technical Leadership

  • Intra-Operative Support: Provide expert technical guidance to surgeons and OR staff during live procedures, ensuring seamless adoption of Medtronic’s wound closure portfolio.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Act as the national SME for high-value technologies, including V-Loc™ Barbed Sutures, Conventional Suture and specialty conversion portfolios.

  • Clinical In-Servicing: Lead comprehensive training for OR nurses, Surgical Technicians, and Residents on product codes, needle anatomy, and material science.

  • Leadership & Talent Development: * Field Coaching: Mentor and Coach SCS representatives to refine sales techniques and clinical delivery.

    • Onboarding: Facilitate the integration of new hires, ensuring mastery of clinical protocols and the Medtronic OnTrack sales process.

    • Performance Oversight: Partner with the US Wound Closure Business Leader to identify talent gaps and execute professional development plans.

    • Provide Subject Matter Expertise: Help train and educate local Surgical Account Managers on wound closure clinical / process adoption.

2. Conversion & Implementation Strategy

  • The "Product Swap": Orchestrate the physical removal of competitive inventory and the streamlined organization of Medtronic stock within OR cores and specialty carts.

  • Precision Gap Analysis: Audit hospital usage to identify exact "product equivalents," mitigating clinical disruption during the transition.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner with local Surgical Account Managers (SAM) to ensure conversions hit volume targets and remain on schedule.

  • Lead Representation: Serve as the "Lead Rep" in high-priority facilities or complex accounts requiring executive-level oversight.

3. Business & Operational Excellence

  • Value Analysis (VAC) Engagement: Present clinical data and success metrics to hospital leadership to validate the financial and clinical move to Medtronic.

  • Territory Stabilization: Provide elite-level coverage for territories in transition or vacancy to protect market share and maintain customer continuity.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Conversion Velocity: Achieving timely completion of inventory swaps and staff training within the implementation window.

  • Contract Compliance: Driving accounts toward 100% "pull-through" and compliance with Medtronic agreements.

  • Surgeon Experience: Maintaining high satisfaction scores regarding clinical outcomes and product "feel" during the transition.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. 

Must Have: Minimum Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree 

  • Minimum of 2+ years of medical device sales experience 

  • Field-based role that requires 50% travel within the territory 

Nice to Have:

  • Healthcare Experience: 2+ years of sales or clinical experience in a hospital environment.

  • Sales Mastery: Demonstrated success in previous roles with a high level of sales performance and persuasion skills.

  • Supply Chain Knowledge: Understanding of hospital vendor/distributor workflows and supply chain management.

  • Executive Presence: Ability to develop and deliver complex business reviews to C-Suite and Value Analysis stakeholders.

  • Adaptability: Proven ability to multi-task in high-pressure environments and work independently or as a team lead.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$135,000 - $135,000

 

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

In addition to Base Salary, this position is eligible for a Sales Incentive Plan (SIP), which provides the opportunity to earn significant incentive compensation for achieving or exceeding your goals.

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
