POSITION OVERVIEW
At BDC, the only bank dedicated exclusively to Canadian entrepreneurs, data governance plays a critical role in enabling informed decision-making and supporting business growth across Canada.
The Data Governance Specialist – Business Relations & Operations acts as a key liaison between business stakeholders and enterprise data and AI governance functions.
This role is responsible for executing the annual Data & AI Governance operational cycle while strengthening data stewardship practices across the organization. Your work directly contributes to improving data quality, reliability, and business alignment.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Develop and maintain strong relationships with business stakeholders to ensure alignment with data governance policies and standards.
Act as the primary engagement point for business units on data governance matters.
Design, plan, and deliver training programs for Data Stewards.
Coordinate and manage Data Stewardship Tables and Committees, including agenda preparation, materials coordination, and follow-up on decisions.
Oversee the annual calendar of data and AI governance operations and reporting cycles.
Represent the “Voice of Business” during quarterly IT planning to ensure data-related priorities and issues are addressed.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed data governance practices into business processes.
Conduct regular assessments of data stewardship effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.
Develop and execute communication strategies to increase organizational awareness of data governance initiatives.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR (Required)
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in data governance or data management roles.
Knowledge of data governance frameworks and industry best practices.
Proven experience in stakeholder management.
Experience in training design and facilitation.
Proficiency with data quality tools and data quality metrics.
