The Lengnau site is one of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s newest biologics manufacturing facilities, featuring advanced stainless-steel as well as single-use technologies and supporting global clients from clinical development through commercial supply.
Discover Impactful Work:
In this role, you will be a key member of the Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) team in Lengnau. As a Senior Scientist, you will support biologics manufacturing by leading and executing technology transfers, providing process expertise, and ensuring robust and reliable manufacturing processes.
Working closely with manufacturing, quality, engineering, and clients, you will play a critical role in enabling successful manufacturing campaigns and continuous process improvement.
A day in the Life:
- Support technology transfer activities for biologics drug substance manufacturing, including engineering runs, clinical/GMP campaigns, PPQ, and commercial production.
- Provide process expertise in either upstream (cell culture, perfusion systems, feeding strategies, bioreactors, harvest) or downstream (purification, filtration, chromatography) operations using single-use technology and stainless-steel equipment.
- The role focus (upstream or downstream processing) will be assigned based on the candidate’s expertise and business needs.
- Translate process requirements into automated execution systems (MES, PCS) and manufacturing equipment interactions.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing activities including data trending, complex deviation investigation, impact assessments, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve process robustness, efficiency, and scalability.
- Interact directly with clients during manufacturing campaign preparation, execution, and follow-up.
- Support CMC and regulatory documentation related to manufacturing processes.
Keys to Success:
Education
- MSc or PhD in biotechnology, biochemical engineering, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
Experience
- Experience in GMP drug substance manufacturing of biologics (MSc: >4 years, PhD: >2 years).
- Experience in process support, technology transfer, or MSAT/technical operations in a biopharmaceutical environment.

- Strong ability to work in multicultural and cross-disciplinary project teams.
- Excellent organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Self-driven and results-oriented mindset.
- Fluent in English; German is an advantage.
