About the role

Volunteer Description:

Unpaid volunteer contributing time to Intermountain Healthcare in various roles.

Before you apply, please note the following:

As we wrap up recruitment for the year, only limited volunteer openings remain. Please keep the following requirements in mind before submitting your application:

  • Required onboarding: You must be available to attend both volunteer onboarding and orientation sessions: Wednesday, October 21, from 5:30–7:30 p.m., and Wednesday, October 28, from 5:30–7:30 p.m.
  • Schedule flexibility: Many shifts are nearly full and may not be able to accommodate additional volunteers. We will do our best to find a placement that works for you; however, please come prepared with more than one available day and time. The more options you provide, the better our chances of finding a shift that works for you. Based on current volunteer schedules and department needs, you may be asked to serve in a department other than the one for which you originally applied.

Job duties:

The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Primary Children's Hospital offers a place for patients' families to relax in a friendly, home-like atmosphere.  It is a place where families can have a home-cooked meal, visit with other families, take a shower, do laundry, or just get a little downtime outside a child's room. The Family Room is also a place for families to receive assistance and learn about resources within the hospital and the local community.

Volunteers help staff the room's front desk and welcome families as they come in. They also help the team with cleaning, organizing, stocking, making beds, treats, crafts, etc.

The goal of the Ronald McDonald Family Room is to help alleviate stress and fatigue while families are in the hospital. Volunteers will interact with families as needed, document guest usage and stock supplies, and help answer questions. This position will mainly involve parents and siblings, with some patient visits.

Available shifts:

Sunday: 9:00-1:00pm and 1:00pm-5:00pm

Monday: 9:00-1:00pm and 5:00-9:00pm
