Join our Cytogenetics team as a Senior Laboratory Technologist. Our full-service genetics laboratory offers you the ability to specialize in the latest techniques such as FISH and microarray testing, while using state-of-the-art equipment -- including automated metaphase finding and karyotyping systems. In this versatile facility, you'll perform tasks in everything from pre- and post-natal genetics for genetic counseling to cancer genetics for our continuously expanding Cancer program. A Senior FISH Technologist performs fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) testing to detect chromosomal abnormalities in oncology, hematology, and constitutional specimens. This role focuses on FISH‑related bench work, analysis, documentation, and quality compliance to support accurate diagnostic results.
Core responsibilities include:
- Perform all aspects of FISH Wet lab procedures, including general lab maintenance and reagent inventory.
- Perform FISH analysis on all specimen types including BM/PB, FFPE and fresh tissue.
- Communicate results effectively to supervisors, pathologists, or clinical laboratory directors as required.
This is a full-time day shift position, working Monday – Friday 9:00am-5:00pm including flexibility to cover occasional Saturdays as needed, located at NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Required Criteria:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, molecular Biology, Medical Technology or related field.
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist licensure from the New York Education department.
- 2 years experience as a Laboratory Technologist.
- Knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Criteria:
- ASCP certification (preferred but not required).
- Proficiency in FISH techniques, fluorescence microscopy, and imaging systems.
- Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain accuracy in a high‑complexity, fast‑paced environment.
