The Marketplace Support & Capability Development Lead serves as the primary business representative for Item and Product Content capabilities within the Marketplace. This role is responsible for ensuring that enterprise item and content capabilities effectively support Marketplace growth, seller success, and operational scalability.
While not directly owning product development, this role plays a critical leadership position in shaping priorities, influencing the roadmap, and ensuring capabilities are designed and executed to meet evolving business needs.
Acting as the voice of the Marketplace, this role partners across Product, Engineering, Legal, Compliance, and Operations to align strategy, drive execution readiness, and continuously improve the item and content ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Marketplace Strategy & Business Representation
Serve as the primary business liaison for Marketplace across enterprise Item and Product capabilities.
Represent Marketplace priorities, ensuring item and content capabilities enable growth, scalability, and strong seller experience.
Influence roadmap direction by clearly articulating business needs, use cases, and impact.
Translate strategic priorities into actionable business requirements and operational plans.
Identify capability gaps and advocate for enhancements using competitive insights and industry best practices.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Alignment
Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure solutions meet business needs and are scalable for Marketplace operations.
Collaborate with Legal and Compliance to define and evolve policies, standards, and requirements for seller-provided item data and content.
Drive alignment across stakeholders to ensure readiness, adoption, and successful execution of new capabilities.
Capability Enablement & Operational Excellence
Define and own business requirements for tools and processes that support item setup, maintenance, and transitions across 1P, 2P, and 3P models.
Serve as the functional subject matter expert, guiding process improvements and maintaining standard operating procedures.
Partner cross-functionally to reduce friction, improve data quality, and enhance seller experience.
Support and influence the adoption of AI and automation to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of item and content workflows.

About You:
7+ years of experience in marketplace operations, item management, business strategy, or related roles
Experience influencing cross-functional teams and product roadmaps without direct ownership
Strong understanding of item data, product content, and digital commerce ecosystems
Experience working with Product, Engineering, Legal, and Compliance partners
Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
This position will operate as a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement based on Target’s needs. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day work arrangement means the team member’s core role will need to be performed both onsite at the Target HQ MN location the role is assigned to and virtually, depending upon what your role, team and tasks require for that day.
