How you’ll make an impact

Leverage your expertise in employment and HR law as well as employment and civil litigation to provide trusted legal advice and insights that support FCC’s business and its mandate as a Canadian Crown corporation.

As Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll advise leaders on complex legal matters, help manage legal risk and contribute to sound decision-making across the organization.

What you’ll do

  • Provide legal advice to senior leaders and staff on a broad range of employment and HR matters, including the interpretation and application of the Canada Labour Code, supporting workplace investigations as required and employment litigation

  • Independently manage civil litigation matters

  • Supervise outside counsel

  • Interpret statutes, interpret and draft internal policies, contracts and other legal documents to support compliant and effective business decisions

  • Develop and support corporate HR policies, processes, training and tools (including those related to workplace investigations) to ensure legal information is accessible and consistently applied

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal partners, external counsel and counterparts at other Crown corporations

What you’ll bring to the team

Required qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.).

  • Minimum five years of experience in a corporate legal function and/or private practice

  • Strong knowledge of HR, employment and litigation law within a Canadian context, including the Canada Labour Code and experience conducting workplace investigations

  • Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and provide practical, risk-informed legal advice

  • Eligibility and good standing to practice law in Canada

  • Advanced proficiency in both official languages (English and French)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working within a Crown corporation or public sector environment
