Job Description:
Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc. (AMA) of Hampton, VA, is actively seeking an entry-level or early-career Mechanical Engineer with experience in both Materials & Processes and Contamination Control in support of spaceflight hardware. The qualified candidate will provide technical solutions and expertise to a wide range of difficult problems surrounding the design, analysis, manufacture, testing, preparation, and storage of sensitive flight project components to be utilized for both research and spaceflight. This position will support the Research, Science and Engineering Services (RSES) contract onsite at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.
The qualified candidate will be responsible for the development and review of hardware requirements, assessing material selection and its application in spaceflight environments, contamination control processes and their application, effective communication with other engineering and management personnel, and overseeing the contamination control processes during assembly, integration, storage, shipment, and testing of spaceflight hardware.
The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000, commensurate with education and experience.
Responsibilities:
Generate processes to be used on contamination sensitive spaceflight hardware during all life cycle phases
Assess hardware design for issues in material selection and processing applications
Develop reports, presentations and other documentation
Generate contamination control procedures
Knowledge of acceptance standards for spaceflight hardware applications
Attend meetings and teleconferences and be ready to discuss issues seen in design, analysis, qualification and acceptance plans and reports
Oversee developed hardware's contamination prevention through all life cycle phases
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or chemical engineering
Experience with Contamination Control for spaceflight hardware
Knowledge of aerospace materials, and their associated processes, uses, applications and limitations
Ability to work independently under general direction only
Candidates must possess strong written and oral communication skills
US citizenship or Permanent Residence.
Desired Qualifications:
Previous work experience with spaceflight hardware in a cleanroom environment
This is an on-site position at NASA Langley Research Center and requires U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence.
