About the role

Principal Commodity Manager – Boston Dynamics

Shape the future of robotics through global supply strategy.

At Boston Dynamics, we’re building some of the most advanced robotic systems in the world—and our supply chain is just as critical as our engineering. We’re looking for a Principal Commodity Manager to play a pivotal role in scaling our operations, driving innovation across our supplier ecosystem, and ensuring the resilience of the technologies powering our robots.

This is not a traditional procurement role. You’ll operate as a strategic leader and trusted advisor, influencing sourcing decisions across cutting-edge product lines, partnering directly with engineering, and shaping how we bring next-generation robotics to life.

What You’ll Do

  • Own global commodity strategy across high-impact categories, driving long-term value, innovation, and supply continuity in a rapidly scaling environment.
  • Act as the commercial lead for mission-critical suppliers, leading complex negotiations and structuring multi-year partnerships that fuel our growth.
  • Partner deeply with engineering, product, and operations to align sourcing with breakthrough robotics development.
  • Bring market intelligence to life—anticipate cost drivers, supply risks, and global trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • Lead design-for-cost, make vs. buy, and cross-functional sourcing initiatives that directly impact product performance and margin.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks across a global supplier base, from geopolitical shifts to capacity constraints.
  • Drive supplier performance excellence, implementing advanced metrics and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Enable successful new product introductions (NPIs) by ensuring materials and components are sourced efficiently and at scale.
  • Mentor and elevate procurement talent, helping build a world-class sourcing organization.

Why This Role Matters

You’ll be at the intersection of innovation, strategy, and execution, helping ensure that the components powering advanced robotics—actuators, sensors, motion systems—are sourced intelligently, sustainably, and at scale. Your decisions will directly impact product performance, cost structure, and the company’s ability to deliver on ambitious growth.

What You Bring

  • Deep expertise in global sourcing, commodity strategy, and supplier development
  • Experience with robotics or complex electromechanical components (actuators, sensors, motion control)
  • Strong command of cost modeling, TCO analysis, and supplier economics
  • Proven ability to lead high-stakes negotiations and influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Expertise navigating complex, global supply chains in dynamic environments
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and procurement analytics tools
  • Executive-level communication skills and the ability to operate as a strategic partner to leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 12+ years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or commodity leadership
  • Professional certifications (CPSM, CPIM, CSCP) are a plus
