About the role

We’re on a mission to make money work for everyone.

We’re waving goodbye to the complicated and confusing ways of traditional banking.

After starting as a prepaid card, our product offering has grown a lot in the last 10 years in the UK. As well as personal and business bank accounts, we offer joint accounts, accounts for 16-17 year olds, a free kids account and credit cards in the UK, with more exciting things to come beyond. Our UK customers can also save, invest and combine their pensions with us.

With our hot coral cards and get-paid-early feature, combined with financial education on social media and our award winning customer service, we have a long history of creating magical moments for our customers!

We’re not about selling products - we want to solve problems and change lives through Monzo ❤️

London or UK Remote | circa £95,000 + Benefits

This is a 12 month fixed term contract.

Our Policy team⭐

Monzo is an exciting combination of a bank and tech start-up, started from scratch in February 2015 to build a bank that makes money work for everyone. We’re focussed on solving problems, rather than selling financial products, making your financial life simpler, and giving you complete control from your smartphone.

We’re the largest digital only challenger bank in the UK, with over 15 million customers. As we continue to grow, we want to make sure we’re really living our mission of making money work for everyone.

Monzo is growing fast, from being a UK bank to operating a tech and FS group with a truly international footprint. You will help lead ambitious growth in our policy agenda and impact to match this expansion, working in Ireland, Spain and other EU states.

You'll be part of our Public Policy squad, with responsibility for leading Monzo’s international policy strategy and government relations engagement. You’ll work closely with teams across the company as we establish our presence in the EU and expand Monzo’s offering to US consumers. This will include creating an international relations strategy and engagement plan across four policy categories: corporate and prudential, product, financial inclusion and vulnerability, AI and tech.

You’ll play a key role by...

  • Helping devise the team’s international strategy and priorities as the business expands in new territories with a particular focus upon the EU and US.
  • Coordinating input from across the business, briefing Board and senior management to ensure Monzo anticipates policy challenges and uses opportunities, with a focus on the EU.
  • Maintaining and developing key relationships with external policy makers, industry groups, consumer groups and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
  • Helping build our expertise and views on a range of policy and social impact issues, and advocating for change which helps us achieve our mission.
  • Working with internal product teams to help them build features and services that enhance our mission to make money work for everyone.
  • Coordinating and writing formal responses to relevant consultations and other requests.
  • Partnering with international trade and consumer organisations that share our aims by pooling our expertise, resources and voice.

We’d love to hear from you if…

  • Bring significant management and leadership experience to the function, supporting the Group Policy Director to extend the team’s impact as Monzo expands
  • Enthusiastically engage with team, Collective, or discipline-level initiatives where best placed to help, bringing about positive change through their involvement.
  • Contribute to the wider team or domain meeting goals through successfully leading and consistently delivering on challenging projects on complex issues
  • Proactively help others to improve by sponsoring, mentoring and providing constructive, candid feedback.
  • Act as a trusted problem solver, capable of leading the resolution of issues related to their work or area of expertise.

You should apply if:

  • You have significant international policy experience, particularly in the EU and/or US
  • You’re passionate about Monzo, our mission, and you want to drive positive impact and change for our customers.
  • You have experience working in policy, whether as part of a policy team, a public affairs team, a think tank or similar.
    • Experience in financial services or tech policy is a bonus, but not a prerequisite.
  • You’re a self starter, and comfortable with the speed of execution at a startup.
  • You love taking the initiative and driving things forward at your own pace, without being told what to do.

What’s in it for you

circa £95,000

This role can be based in our London office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London)

⏰ We offer flexible working hours and trust you to work enough hours to do your job well, and at times that suit you and your team.

We will set you up to work from home; all employees are given Macbooks and for fully remote workers we will provide extra support for your work-from-home setup.
