Role Summary

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager, Quality Engineering & Quality Architecture to lead the evolution of quality engineering across Storable.

This role requires a highly technical quality engineering leader who can operate as a Quality Engineering Architect for the organization while also leading and developing a team of quality engineers.

The ideal candidate has deep experience designing quality strategies for complex SaaS platforms, distributed systems, APIs, integrations, payments, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native applications. They understand engineering challenges firsthand and can partner closely with software engineers, architects, platform teams, SREs, product managers, and engineering leaders to build quality into systems rather than relying solely on downstream testing.

This leader will drive modern quality engineering practices, AI-assisted testing approaches, automation strategy, engineering excellence initiatives, and organizational quality transformation while building a high-performing QE organization.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role requiring strong architectural thinking, engineering influence, and people leadership.

What You’ll Own

Quality Engineering Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and execute the quality engineering vision and strategy across Storable’s engineering organization.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of quality engineers, senior automation engineers, and technical quality leaders.
  • Partner with engineering, product, architecture, security, and SRE leaders to establish a unified approach to quality.
  • Drive the transformation from traditional QA practices toward engineering-led quality ownership.
  • Establish quality goals, maturity models, and adoption roadmaps across multiple engineering teams.
  • Develop and mentor engineering talent while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
  • Define and track key engineering quality metrics including:
    • Defect escape rate
    • Production incident trends
    • Change failure rate
    • Mean time to recovery (MTTR)
    • Automation effectiveness
    • Test reliability and flakiness
    • Release confidence metrics

Quality Architecture & Engineering Excellence

  • Define quality architecture patterns and testing strategies for distributed systems, microservices, APIs, integrations, payments, asynchronous workflows, and multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
  • Participate in architecture and design reviews to ensure systems are testable, observable, resilient, and maintainable.
  • Establish engineering-wide standards for quality, automation, testability, and release readiness.
  • Drive risk-based testing strategies aligned to business impact and system criticality.
  • Partner with architects and engineering leaders to embed quality considerations during system design and implementation.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex quality challenges involving:
    • Event-driven systems
    • Data consistency
    • Third-party integrations
    • Distributed workflows
    • High-volume transaction processing
    • Production reliability
  • Influence engineering decisions through technical expertise and data-driven recommendations

Automation, Tooling & Quality Engineering

  • Define automation strategies that maximize engineering efficiency and business value.
  • Lead the design, evolution, and developer experience of frameworks and tooling supporting:
    • API and service-level testing
    • Integration testing
    • Contract testing
    • End-to-end testing
    • Performance and load testing
    • Reliability and resilience testing
  • Partner with engineering teams to ensure automated testing is implemented at the appropriate layers of the testing pyramid.
  • Improve automation maintainability, reliability, scalability, and execution speed.
  • Drive improvements in test environment management, test data management, and test execution strategies.
  • Establish engineering practices that enable teams to own and continuously improve quality.

AI-Enabled Quality Engineering

  • Evaluate and implement AI-assisted approaches for test design, test generation, impact analysis, defect triage, and release risk assessment.
  • Drive adoption of intelligent automation techniques that improve coverage while reducing maintenance effort.
  • Assess emerging AI capabilities and identify practical opportunities to improve engineering quality and productivity.
  • Establish best practices and governance for AI-generated test assets and quality workflows.
  • Partner with engineering teams to leverage AI capabilities throughout the software delivery lifecycle while maintaining reliability and trustworthiness.

Reliability, Performance & Production Quality

  • Partner closely with SRE and engineering teams to design for reliability rather than relying solely on testing.
  • Establish strategies for:
    • Performance testing
    • Capacity planning validation
    • Reliability engineering
    • Resilience testing
    • Failure-mode analysis
    • Fault injection and chaos testing
  • Drive quality practices aligned with service-level objectives (SLOs), error budgets, and operational excellence goals.
  • Ensure quality engineering capabilities leverage observability signals including logs, metrics, traces, and production telemetry.
  • Support incident reviews and systemic improvement efforts to reduce recurring quality issues.

Engineering Enablement & Organizational Change

  • Lead organizational adoption of modern quality engineering practices across teams with varying levels of maturity.
  • Coach engineering managers, architects, tech leads, and engineers on quality engineering principles and testability.
  • Build and maintain standards, playbooks, training programs, and communities of practice.
  • Identify and remove systemic blockers affecting quality outcomes, including:
    • Environment constraints
    • Test data challenges
    • Tooling limitations
    • Process inefficiencies
    • Ownership gaps
  • Drive a culture where quality is a shared engineering responsibility.

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, quality engineering, or test engineering.
  • 4+ years of engineering leadership experience with direct people management responsibilities.
  • Experience operating as a Quality Engineering Architect, Principal Quality Engineer, Senior SDET Leader, or similar technical leadership role.
  • Proven success leading quality transformations within SaaS-based engineering organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience creating self serve testing platforms and capabilities at enterprise scale (300+ engineers).
  • Strong software engineering background with hands-on experience in one or more of:
    • Java
    • Python
    • Go
  • Good understanding of:
    • Distributed systems
    • Microservices architectures
    • Cloud-native applications
    • APIs and integrations
    • Event-driven systems
    • Multi-tenant SaaS platforms
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Test automation frameworks
    • API and integration testing
    • Contract testing

  • Experience partnering closely with engineering, architecture, platform, security, and SRE teams.
  • Strong technical communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence engineering organizations through technical leadership.

  • Experience leading quality engineering across payments, commerce, financial, or transaction-heavy/low fault platforms.
  • Experience modernizing traditional QA organizations into engineering-led quality organizations.
  • Experience implementing AI-assisted quality engineering solutions.
  • Familiarity with LLMs, AI agents, and modern AI development workflows.
  • Experience with chaos engineering, resilience testing, and reliability engineering practices.
  • Working knowledge of Formal Methods and model-based strategies
  • Experience scaling quality engineering capabilities across multiple product lines and engineering teams.
  • Experience establishing engineering quality metrics and using data to drive organizational improvements.
