This role is based in Kolwezi, DRC

The deployment of OpenMRS 3 at the hospital level (Mwangeji)is a time-bound, high-intensity activity that requires close on-site supervision, coordination, and rapid problem-solving during critical phases of implementation.

Temporary staff are required to:

  • Provide hands-on technical and functional support to health workers and hospital management during the early adoption period.
  • Mitigate risks related to system misuse, workflow disruption, and data quality issues during the transition from paper or legacy systems.
  • Complement the core project team, which may not have sufficient availability to remain permanently on-site across multiple facilities.
  • Allow the project to meet tight deployment timelines while maintaining quality standards and adherence to national digital health guidelines.

The temporary nature of the assignment aligns with the deployment and stabilization phase, after which routine support can be transitioned to existing structures.

  • Provide on-the-job coaching and basic user training to ensure effective system adoption.
  • Monitor data entry practices, data quality, and system usage during the early implementation phase.
  • Identify, document, and escalate technical or operational issues to the central technical team.
  • Support go-live activities and provide immediate post-go-live support.
  • Produce brief weekly progress and incident reports, including lessons learned and recommendations.

Profile of Skills and Credentials Required

  • Strong foundations in computer programming (e.g. Python, Java, JavaScript or equivalent).
  • Good understanding of databases and data structures (relational databases, basic SQL concepts, data integrity).
  • Knowledge of algorithmic thinking and problem-solving (logic, workflows, basic algorithms).
  • Solid IT skills: computer hardware, operating systems, local networks, user management, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to analyze and understand digital workflows within a hospital environment (outpatient, inpatient, pharmacy, laboratory, HIV or MCH services).
  • Capacity to provide hands-on support and on-the-job coaching to end-users with varying levels of digital literacy.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based environment and under time pressure.

Quick win

  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems (e.g. OpenMRS) or other health information systems is considered a quick win, but not a mandatory requirement.
