Job Description Summary:
The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at ASU is seeking a motivated individual to supervise the undergraduate advising team at ASU’s West Valley campus. This position is Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM with occasional nights and weekends and is located at ASU’s West Valley campus in Glendale, Arizona. The opportunity for some hybrid work is offered, as business need allows.
Essential Duties:
Supervises all programs within a department or a unique program (e.g., internship, special populations program) at the college, campus, or university level.
May provide direct academic advising up to 50% of their work week as the business need requires.
Provides recruitment/retention and/or other student support functions as needed.
Assesses unit operation functions and implements policies, procedures, and objectives as directed.
Initiates and prepares administrative reports and documents.
Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff; supervises all academic advising, recruitment/retention, and/or student support activities as directed.
Represents the college/department and serves on various department and university committees as directed.
Provides consistent leadership and presence in the student services center.
Identifies campaign and engagement strategies to increase enrollment and persistence of our undergraduate populations.
Meets all goals as assigned by the college, university, and ABOR.
Consistently demonstrates appropriate judgment, discretion, critical thinking, and professionalism with all stakeholders.
Effectively influences a supportive, positive, and inclusive culture; focusing on excellence and accountability.
Acts as liaison with the community, students, faculty, and staff in facilitating university programs.
Serves as a representative of the University at state, regional and national organizations, boards, councils, and committees as assigned.
Develops work plans, policies, and reports in accordance with established unit and department objectives and funding limitations as directed.
Recommends and monitors compliance with department policies and procedures.
Builds effective rapport with internal and external stakeholders and identifies opportunities for improvement and/or efficiencies in alignment with the university mission.
Communicates with other departments and university administrators; resolves or assists with the resolution of sensitive and/or escalated issues.

Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices related to academic advising, recruitment/retention, and/or other student support functions.
Demonstrated knowledge of management and supervisory principles and practices.

Experience in planning, analyzing, and coordinating activities and establishing priorities in both student service and retention.
Experience in effectively managing, supervising, and evaluating assigned staff.
Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Demonstrates knowledge of service standards, practices, and business acumen.
Demonstrates critical thinking and applied skills in emotional intelligence in performance management and conflict resolution.
Supervisory experience in a higher education setting.
Demonstrated professionalism and effective communication; verbal, non-verbal and written.
Evidence of a strong understanding of service culture and accountability in a higher education setting.
Ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
Experience with fully digital student populations in higher education.
Evidence of effective communication skills.
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
