About the role
At eBay, we're more than a global ecommerce leader — we’re changing the way the world shops and sells. Our platform empowers millions of buyers and sellers in more than 190 markets around the world. We’re committed to pushing boundaries and leaving our mark as we reinvent the future of ecommerce for enthusiasts.
Our customers are our compass, authenticity thrives, bold ideas are welcome, and everyone can bring their unique selves to work — every day. We're in this together, sustaining the future of our customers, our company, and our planet.
Join a team of passionate thinkers, innovators, and dreamers — and help us connect people and build communities to create economic opportunity for all.
About the Role Information Security generates a massive amount of data, but data without context is just noise. We are building a brand-new Security Automation team dedicated to treating security metrics and workflows as highly reliable, scalable internal software products.
As the technical anchor and Lead/Staff Engineer on this team, you will own the architectural vision. You will not just be writing code; you will be designing the distributed systems, data pipelines, and event-driven architectures that stitch together our multi-cloud infrastructure, private Kubernetes clusters, and business intelligence platforms. Working closely with InfoSec leadership and a dedicated TPM, you will translate complex business needs—like visualizing the risk of our "Live" and "C2C Growth" functions—into robust engineering blueprints, while mentoring the engineering team to execute on that vision.
What You Will Build & Lead (Responsibilities)
Architectural Leadership: Design the overarching system architecture for our internal security products, including a Unified Asset Graph, multi-cloud ETL pipelines, and event-driven serverless guardrails. Decide when to build, when to buy, and which design patterns to implement.
Technical Direction & Strategy: Define the engineering standards for the team. Establish best practices for version control, CI/CD, testing, code reviews, and dependency management to ensure our automation is treated like Tier-1 production software.
Complex Engineering: Act as the principal contributor for the most difficult technical challenges, such as building the enrichment engine that bridges our in-house private cloud CMDB with multi-cloud public assets (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Data System Design: Architect the data models and storage strategies (Data Lakes/Warehouses) required to process high-volume security telemetry and translate it into sub-second Tableau dashboards.
Secure AI Integration: Design the backend architecture (e.g., FastAPI/Flask microservices) and data privacy guardrails required to safely integrate LLMs and ad-hoc AI tools into our security operations.
Mentorship & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Mentor mid-to-senior engineers on the team. Partner with cloud engineering, infrastructure, and IT teams (ServiceNow, Jira) to design scalable API integrations that respect rate limits and ensure high availability.
What We Are Looking For (Requirements)
Experience: 7+ years of software engineering, backend development, or building large-scale distributed systems, with at least 2 years in a technical leadership or architectural role.
System Design & Architecture: Proven ability to design scalable ETL pipelines, microservices, and event-driven architectures from scratch. You should be able to whiteboard a complex, multi-cloud data flow and defend your technology choices.
Core Languages: Expert-level proficiency in Python (specifically interacting with REST APIs, asynchronous processing, and data manipulation) and advanced proficiency in SQL and data modeling.
Cloud & Infrastructure: Deep architectural understanding of multi-cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and Kubernetes.
Infrastructure as Code: Advanced experience with Terraform and deploying "Policy as Code."
Engineering Excellence: Deep expertise in building CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI), containerization (Docker/K8s), and establishing testing frameworks.
